I really got on board with Michael Burnham. Wasn't a fan of SM-G in TWD so this was a pleasant surprise. I'm into her story and can't wait to see what happens next! I think she had more character development in 2 hours than most of the ENT cast in 4 years.
I loved that the Klingons came across as a legitimate threat and not the TNG/DS9/ENT caricature.
Loved the new look of Star Trek. Even the fugly USS Europa had a boxy charm.
Loved the glitchy holograms doing occasional weird stuff (flipping around etc) that anyone who's ever done game design or animation knows too well.
Loved that the back of the badges act as dog tags with name and serial number on them.
Burnham convincing the computer to save her. Something tells me Harry Mudd will just talk his way out of the brig in a few episodes' time.
Loved the Shenzhou getting shredded. Hull breaches everywhere, it's a big step up from sparking consoles and starship acting.
Loads more.
