Summer of '08 (Concert Thread)

I'm going to see Stone Temple Pilots at the Fillmore in Detroit tomorrow night.

I'm going to see them July 4th at Summerfest in Milwaukee.

There's also a whole crap load of concerts I'll be going to during that week. God...I love Summerfest....

OK, I have returned and I am pleased to report that Weiland was both sober and on time!

And it was a fantastic gig to boot.

I can't remember if you asked me after I saw STP, but which songs did they play (if you remember)?

Anyway, I've seen:

Stone Temple Pilots (yay!)
Opening for them (not so yay) was Staind, Everclear, The Hooters, and a bunch of random bands.

I will see:

Iron Maiden (in two weeks)

Testament
Motorhead
Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath with Dio)
Judas Priest (All in one big show in early August)

Radiohead (need to clear all the metal out of my head, so why not go with something really cool).

^STP played everything you'd expect them to on that sort of comeback tour. The only thing I was miffed about was that, unless they played it when I went to bar, they didn't play All in the Suit that You Wear which I really hoped they would. Plush was great though, and they do Sour Girl electric now which was really good. And I don't recall hearing Down either.

Erm, they were supported by Ashes Divide, who were really boring.

Maiden are really good live, you'll enjoy that. I saw em in about 92, but I am sure they are still great.

I think they played when I saw them too, but I honestly don't even remember them.

Glad to hear that about Maiden. I'm not the biggest fan in the world, but I do enjoy a lot of their songs, so I didn't think I could pass up the opportunity.

^ I don't own anything after Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, which is their last great album IMO. I had some of the later ones on tape but haven't bothered to upgrade them to CD.

Their setlist for the June 4 show in Detroit was the exact same as your show but All In the Suit That You Wear was also played. You picked the wrong day :p

^ Boooo!!!

Ahh well, I won't lose too much sleep over one song. There's others I'd love to see if they come back with a full album and tour. About a Fool or Heed the Water Whisperer for instance. I doubt we'll ever get to hear them live though.

That makes me yearn to see more bands though, i've been very slack recently. The Raconteurs are playing at the Eden Project in Cornwall in a few weeks, I might go check that out.

Just got back from Maiden a couple hours ago. Absolutely amazing concert!
Everything except for one song was 1988 (Seventh Son of a Seventh Son) and earlier.

01. Intro - Churchill's Speech
02. Aces High
03. 2 Minutes to Midnight
04. Revelations
05. The Trooper
06. Wasted Years
07. The Number of the Beast
08. Run to the Hills
09. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
10. Powerslave
11. Heaven Can Wait
12. Can I Play With Madness?
13. Fear of the Dark
14. Iron Maiden
-----------------------------
15. Moonchild
16. The Clairvoyant
17. Hallowed Be Thy Name

The band and the crowd were both really into it. The energy they had was nothing short of miraculous. My voice is gone and my ears are still ringing.....and i couldn't be happier.

I've been one of Rock In Rio: Lisbon's concert two days ago, the only summer festival I'll attend. The line up was Moonspell, Apocalyptica, Machine Head, and Metallica. It fucking ruled!

Great setlist! They had a good knack of picking real winners for their singles, so the hits tour is just classic after classic. The only single after Seventh Son that really hit the spot for me was Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter.

Lots of good music to look forward too...

This coming weekend I'll see Tomi Swick, Kim Mitchell and the Arrogant Worms (among others_ at a *free* outdoor music festival.

Next weekend I'll see Sarah Harmer, Sam Roberts Band and the Tragically Hip (also among others) at another festival (this one no so free, sadly).

Tickets also lined up for Great Big Sea and Rush...

Other possibles are Glass Tiger, Matt Dusk and Ron Sexsmith, depending on how things work out...

I went to Brad Paisley's Paisley Party Tour last night in Phoenix, AZ. The dude knows how to entertain. The extended guitar and instrumental breaks were fabulous, and he kept the crowd involved and into the music during the entire 100-minute set. The videos and animation behind him were very amusing, and they included cameos by some notable musicians. The opening acts were Jewel, Chuck Wicks, and Julianne Hough. All three of them have great voices, talent, and stage presence, and they were better than I expected.

I was fortunate enough to be in the second row right next to the central catwalk for the opening acts. For Brad's show, they invited those in the first four rows to stand in the corner area where the stage and catwalk meet. I chose to stand between the front row of seats and the catwalk, and I got to high-five Brad as he made his way down the walkway before one of his solos.

It was an awesome night with three hours of good country music.

I don't know if I'm really that into any Cheyenne Frontier Day concerts yet, but I hope to go to Cowboy Troy in June. However, if Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn, Big & Rich, or Gary Allan come anywhere near Cheyenne, I will find a way to them!

Kiss: June 26 in Luxembourg

Iron Maiden: July 2 in Paris.

I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT!!!!!

And come on, Angus and Malcolm! Speed the fuck up and release your goddamn album already!!!!!!!!

Iron Maiden: Today in Jersey

I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT!!!!!

:p

Seriously, though, it is today. It should be a lot of fun.

I'm hitting Journey, Heart and Cheap Trick at the Tweeter Center in August. I wonder what kind of 80s'-style costume I can come up with...

Saw RUSH last monday at united center, chicago. it was incredible. i had seen them on the first leg of their tour in chicago, and this show blew them out of the water. consequently, i'm gonna go see them at summerfest next friday with some buddies from college. not sure what else i'll see this summer, i really havent planned too much out, but boston is coming to bloomington sometime this summer, which would be awesome

btw, i'm 24 y/o, and i know how to party the right way

Well, I saw Iron Maiden. I'll keep my review brief:
