Summer of '08 (Concert Thread)

Okay, STP is out because it's on a bloody Thursday and I work early Friday. Looking at Boston/Styx though.

Oh it would be a huge shame to miss STP, it was the best gig I've been to since, well, the last STP gig I went to ;)

Well, I saw Iron Maiden. I'll keep my review brief:

Best Concert I've Ever Been To.

Glad you enjoyed it. It was a hits tour right?

Having heard snippets of A Matter of Life and Death and not being that impressed I finally caved to pressure from Maiden fans and bought it the other day. And how wrong I was, when I heard the whole thing I realised it was their best album since Seventh Son, and really up there with their best work. In terms of 80s Dickinson albums (which is the only singer of theirs I really like) I'd put it below Number of the Beast and Seventh Son, but above Powerslave, Piece of Mind and Somewhere in Time.

Can't wait for the next one now (coming next year), i'm gonna go see them on the next album tour.

I know. But the concert won't get out until 11PMish-I'll get home around 12:30 and then have to go to work at 7AM. Plus it will cost about $30-$35 in gas. But if I can score a ticket for a good price, I might say "fuck it" and go anyways.

Yeah, somewhere back in time tour.

Yeah, they're still releasing great stuff.

Well, my first post in this thread!

Tomorrow, I'm going to see The Tragically Hip, Sam Roberts and Sarah Harmer in Belleville. Should be an awesome show!

I'm glad you liked the concert Alidar! I cannot fucking wait until they come to Paris!!!!!

Okay, I missed Boston because they were sold out, but did go see Cheap Trick and Journey last night. Cheap Trick put on a good show, but 38 Special was better.

Journey was awesome, though there was a problem. After the third song, a monsoon hit. It was really coming down and as my "seat" was in the lawn, I got drenched. They stopped playing because they were getting power spikes. After moving forward to the covered area and waiting for half an hour (they were packing some of the stuff on stage so I figured I was waiting for a refund announcement, they came back on stage and just played song after song non-stop, going through their hits. The crowd went wild when "Don't Stop Believin' " started. With the rain and lightning surrounding the stage, it was an epic show.

The new singer has some pipes, no doubt about it, but he was short! He must have been a good foot shorter than anyone else on stage. It made it a bit weird because it looked like a kid was up there.

Also, due to the rain storm, they shut down the booth that sells T-Shirts/Posters/Etc. so I missed out on getting some swag. :(

Overall, awesome show though. Plus the girl to guy ratio was about 2-1 and there were a lot of wet T-shirts at the end ;)

Just bumping this thread since, I've been to two more concerts (which is probably it for the summer).

Last week, I went to the Metal Masters show (Testament, Motorhead, Heaven and Hell and Judas Priest). The tickets cost me $25, so it was hard to pass up. I missed almost all of Testament, since they played a ridiculously short show and Motorhead was only so-so for me. Heaven and Hell and Judas Priest were great, so I think it was worth the price (not the best concert, though).

The other show I saw last night, which was Radiohead. Certainly in my top three of concerts. I think the crowd was more enthusiastic than with any other concert I've been to (at least outdoor concerts), which was nice. They played a very long set with two encores. Honestly, if you're a Radiohead fan, there's no point in telling you to see them, but, wow, it was definitely a great show.
