Suliban cell ship inconsistencies

NaughtyTrekkie

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
So, in the first episode the Enterprise captures a suliban cell ship.

To be clear, that single-seater ship which is as fast as the nx-01 (at least), has weapons able to give some problems to hero ship, have a cloaking device and so on, but it is just 2,5 meters in diameter.

And what does NX crew do with that cell ship? keep it in the garage. for more than a year.
Don't forget when sulibans took the NX-01 and its crew: haven't they thought to take their cell ship back?

Bad writing....

As Tucker said in "The Communicator," he was "pretty close to figuring out how it works." It was an alien technology, after all, so it took time to understand it. There's nothing implausible here. It would've been more unbelievable if they'd been able to operate an alien technology instantly -- and there have been plenty of Trek episodes and movies where that has actually happened. Maybe that's more plausible with 23rd- or 24th-century Starfleet personnel who have more advanced technology and more experience with alien tech. But NX-01's crew was just starting out. They'd never reverse-engineered alien tech before, so it took them a long time to figure it out (in between all the other stuff that kept them busy in the meantime).

It wasn't their job to think; it was their job to follow Future Guy's orders. Silik was more an obedient lackey than an independent thinker. Future Guy ordered him to capture Archer -- and then he lost contact with FG and was unable to get further orders. From that point on, Silik's priorities were to restore contact with his master and/or to complete his mission to capture Archer. And the ship got away before Silik renewed contact, so there was never an opportunity for FG to issue orders about the disposition of the captured cell ship.

that is even worse.
They have such marvelous ship in their hangar, and, instead returning to Earth to have it studied 24/7 by the greatest experts, they tell a single man to study it in his free time?

I might need to rewatch the episodes, but didn't Archer want to keep some "temporal integrity" intact? I mean, he later kept Daniels' quarters and all its goodies under quarantine. He doesn't want to be laughed out of Princeton like poor old Zefram Cochrane.

So, in my mind, he and Tucker and the senior staff kept some of the details fuzzy, while they clandestinely inspected and studied the cell ship for a 'just-in-case' scenario. No need to involve the Vulcan High Command and their human lackeys in San Francisco.

Indeed. The very point of Archer's mission was to "desert" - to refuse to come back home after the Klaang mission was completed, and instead to keep on exploring, making the Vulcans face fait accompli. Sure, Earth would eventually get the loot, but the chance to collect more of it would probably be gone forever once Archer did return - so he would delay his return for as long as possible.

I just want to add that we must remember that their was always more then one cell ship attacking Enterprise at a time. So the weapon systems aren't that good individually but the collective power would be more impressive. Although the cell ship does have more firepower than a shuttle pod they are suppose to be just one bee in a swarm.

They use the Suliban pod in the novels Daedalus and Daedalus' Children.

Although yes, it would make a LOT more sense to drop it off at Earth and equip the next starship with reverse-engineered Suliban technology.

True, but then again we would have the whole "tampering with the timeline" problem. We do know the Suliban is on the same technological level as earth was then, so we should assume that the tech used for the cell ships was designed by their future contact. I would love to know though what happened to the cell ship in the end though. We seemed to have forgotten all about that once the Xindi attacked earth.

I understand Professor Cavor is angry that they stole his design. I think he's in on the Axanar lawsuit too...
