Katana is in Suicide Squad "now" since Rebirth a month ago, fulfilling the same job, backing up Flag.

Katana is also old School Taskforce X circa 1991.

When she was cutting the brother demons hands off, I was wondering if that was chipping away at his soul?

I could also imagine these God/demons being too strong for a cage intended for human souls (even though we have seen them both caged in dolls) that the sword might just explode at some point freeing who ever is in there.

Amanda Stabbed the Enchantresses heart a lot.

It caused intense pain.

Short of destroying the heart completely, we don't know if even filleting it would actually kill her.

Wow. That link tells me a few things. Box Office is definitely not an indication of the quality of a film. Man of Steel and Batman V Superman must have made the execs very happy in both cases. DC has put out a LOT of crap over the years.
One man's crap is another man's gold.

Oh, I know. It just seems petty to ban a movie for a supporting character. Especially with how much Hollywood has been catering their films toward the Chinese audience.

Not sure how that works nowadays. Traditionally all those movies were done in Hong Kong which might not line up with the current mainland Chinese mindset

So, we might not be getting Egg Fu as the villain in Wonder Woman after all?

Finally saw this movie. It's a solid B+.

The number of poor reviews is perplexing. Butthurt fanboys is one thing, but why would mainstream critics so dislike what is a decent action thriller made fun and memorable by its colourful characters? Were they confused by it not sticking to the standard superhero movie template?

There are a number of nits to be picked with this movie, most of which have been mentioned. None of them is a dealbreaker; the effect is more to make the viewer think "That was an odd choice".

There are three main points of structural weakness:
  1. Waller restaurant scene going straight to Waller Pentagon briefing scene. It feels like there should have been something inbetween to break these up. Possibly the villain flashbacks in the restaurant scene were originally piled at the end of that scene, serving as a break from the exposition.
  2. The big chunk cut from the bar scene that separates acts 2 and 3. We've all seen it in the trailers, and we all agree it was great. There's no obvious reason it was cut, except maybe running time. Had it remained, it would have helped the bar scene to serve as a more effective act-break.
  3. Towards the end of the climax, there is what I'll call the Rumble scene where everyone is fighting with Enchantress. It feels weirdly out-of-place: the Enchantress is a superpowered semi-deity who is currently wreaking havoc across the entire Earth. What's the use of guns and baseball bats in that context? It seems the whole point of that fight was to get the sword within easy reach of Harley, but they could easily have done it another way (e.g. before going to Enchantress, Harley gives Katana a significant look, then when Harley is bowing, she reaches out her hand and Katana throws her the sword).
One more thing: the placement of the title card was really odd. Waller is going into the restaurant; gives a little smile; title card. Wuh?

Joker.
I find Leto's choices for the character interesting, but the character strangely lacks impact. I think the issue is that Leto is actually surprisingly physically slight, and therefore lacks an intimidating presence. This is actually David Ayer's fault: There are a bunch of tricks a director can use to make an actor more imposing, using lenses and camera angles. It would also have helped to simply turn up the volume for Joker's voice (except the growls; those were loud enough).
If you look, you'll also see this issue in play with Enchantress and Batman. Enchantress should be scarier, and Bats has been much more imposing in other movies.

The mooks that the Squad fights have been criticised but I liked them, their facelessness, their weird blackened pustular look, and the fact they used to be human. I actually wish they'd been explored a bit more.

These are the main issues. I may post more thoughts later.

That was why I said hint of a darker take, because it is more negative than what we got in the movie, but not really any kind of "abuse". The way the story talked about it, I was expecting it to be of him slapping her, or pulling his gun on her or something.

Forgot to say, I don't think Joker was underused in the movie. Fans may have wanted to see more, but, in terms of structure, his scenes and the way they were placed worked well.

Yeah, idk what the critics were looking for. We were promised a fun, action romp with villains and anti-heroes and that's what we got.
I imagine if critics would be equally as hard on a Thunderbolts, Sinister Six and or X-Force movie.

A good show by a team of anti-heroes and villains. Also, say it out loud with me, "Harley Quinn saved the world". Crazy.
