Joshua Yehl said:The Verdict: Suicide Squad is a decidedly different flavor than Batman v Superman. It goes for subversive, funny and stylish, and it succeeds wildly during the first act. But then the movie turns into something predictable and unexciting. It plods on, checking off boxes on a list of cliched moments and meaningless plot points, making you wonder where all the razzle-dazzle went. The movie feels thin, and with such little meat on the bone, it almost makes you appreciate how overstuffed Batman v Superman was (despite that being its downfall). Amanda Waller and Deadshot nail their roles, and Harley Quinn makes a fine cinematic debut, but there’s not much to be said about the rest of the ensemble cast -- and as disappointing as it is to say, that includes the Joker. Suicide Squad is more like writer-director David Ayer’s flat-footed Fury than his razor-sharp Training Day (which he wrote), making for another unsatisfying entry in the DCEU.
I'm guessing a huge opening weekend with a massive second weekend drop and no legs. Basically BvS again.Looks like it's going to be a critical bust but make quite a bit of money from the young crowd. I'm not expecting much.
The thing that sings out most of the reviews is how incoherent the entire film is, hints of brilliance surrounded by mediocrity. Which, given them their due, has been DC's wheelhouse of recent times.Sick of the its too dark lines in several reviews...Not everything needs to be Marvel fluffy
Yup, looks like it's tracking in the $140m range now. But it still has a $250m budget, so with media/advertising etc, the dropoff needs to be smaller than we think it will be, or the overseas to be big.I'm guessing a huge opening weekend with a massive second weekend drop and no legs. Basically BvS again.
This is a movie about a bunch of bad guys, it would be ridiculous to expect it to not be dark. I can see not wanting a Superman movie to be dark, but this is really the kind of movie that should be at least a bit darker than the usual Marvel style superhero movie.Sick of the its too dark lines in several reviews...Not everything needs to be Marvel fluffy
