What the hell was with the weird body gyrations of the Enchantress? I don't know how anyone could have kept a straight face filming that scene and then again when it was edited back into the movie.

That was pretty funny. Probably meant to animate the scene on Enchantress' part. The Enchantress in the movie being from a South American background, I imagine they wanted to give some sort of dance swagger to magic ritual.

Damn, did Cara Delevingne look sexy doing it though. She needs to drop Rick Flagg and let me be her boyfriend.

Just got back from seeing it. Overall, I enjoyed it. Bearing in mind that my only history with Suicide Squad previously was the Arrowverse version, I thought that Will Smith was good as Deadshot, Margot Robbie was great as Harley and I thought Jai Courtney as Boomerang was ok too. I also thought Jay Hernandez did a good job as Diablo.

I wasn't a fan of the Leto version of the Joker though.

Would of just liked more back story on what they were, and am i the only one thats not sure what a Meta human is, and getting confused with Meta/Mutant/Inhuman?

Metahuman is basically DC's preferred term for any human with innate superpowers, partly because Marvel would get annoyed if they said "mutant," and partly because a lot of DC's superpowered characters aren't mutants anyway. The term was first applied to superhumans by George R.R. Martin in the role-playing game that was the basis for his Wild Cards shared-universe superhero anthology books, but it was picked up by DC a couple of years later and has been their favored term for superhumans (at least those who aren't alien) ever since.

Well looks like the first week is okay

As of Friday, 11:14PM: Early evening estimates have Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad at $140M-plus for the weekend after a Friday that’s between $63.5M-$65M. But, when it comes to the audience and critics’ response to the film, it’s deja-vu all over again. Like Batman v. Superman, which earned a 27% Rotten Tomatoes score and B CinemaScore, Suicide Squad is getting panned by critics (26%) and has registered an above average response from CinemaScore crowds who gave it a B+ tonight. We’ll assess the long-term ramification of this in a bit, but Warner Bros. marketing department needs to be applauded here for delivering the third-best domestic opening of 2016 to date, the second best of the summer (after Captain America: Civil War‘s $179.1M) and the best opening of Will Smith’s career. Suicide Squad continues to validate Warner Bros.’ ability to capitalize on its brands.

My friend who lives and breathes comics and superheroes (he manages a comic shop) reckons there's at least two dozen things wrong with it and it's still the best DC movie so far. Mainly due to Robbie as Harley Quinn.

I'm seeing it tomorrow...

I stopped reading comics in the late 80's (I've recently started again) so had little idea who Harley Quinn was and less recollection or interest in the 'B' list characters making up the rest of the roster. I went into it without many preconceptions like I did with Guardians of the Galaxy, and that worked out well. Although I don't have a huge amount of faith in the DCCU, my mind was open.

Well...it hung together a bit better than BvS, but DC do seem to struggle with cohesive narratives and this was no exception. Mind you, a lot of movies struggle with that hese days.

Robbie was fantastic, star of the show, and Smith was very good too. Many of the others topped out at O.K. except for Cara Delevingne who really was pretty bad. Towards the end she appeared to be auditioning for the opening credits of Tales of the Unexpected.

The jury is still out on Leto - I didn't like him, but I didn't actually hate him either, and comparisons with Heath Ledger are pointless. We'll see...

Overall there was gratuitous use of popular music bringing to mind all of the subtlety of Homes Under The Hammer and a bunch of other issues. Worst, however, was that it was nowhere near as much fun as it should have been. It should have been an utter riot and just wasn't.

I kind of liked it but I preferred BvS. It looks to me as if DC are teetering on a precipice between getting it right and crashing and burning. Suicide Squad hasn't really pushed it in either direction...

So how long has it been Warner Bros. had a big franchise movie that got a really good reaction from both fans and critics? Harry Potter?

^ And the Hobbit movies before that.

Although, fans have turned on Peter Jackson's interpretation of and WB's milking of the IP.

Ha yeah, I definitely got the sense the editors were trying to cut around those scenes and minimize it as much as they could, because they could see how ridiculous it looked too.

The shame of it is, I actually think they had a really cool and effective villain in Enchantress. They just completely bungled the execution and didn't do nearly enough to build up the character first or establish why she was doing what she was doing. She just suddenly decides to start taking over and destroying the city and opening up portals for no reason, and conveniently right as this new suicide squad is being formed so they can stop her.

I thought this movie was excellent, much better than civil war which was a major let down in every way after I read the comics. The enchantress made a memorable villain and that weird CGI looking dance was hilarious. Fits with the funny slow mo shots of Will Smith catching that gun. I certainly don't expect a movie like this to be super serious, it's a comedy. The joker stole every scene he was in and is a worthy entry into past portrayals of the character.

Bizarre for this to get such a low rating and cookie cutter marvel civil war or ant man get high ratings. They are enjoyable movies as well but certainly not much better than this. I sense a lot of critics bandwagoning things these days.

Oh, I didn't realize Warner owned New Line. The Wikipedia article said that New Line was the production company for The Hobbit trilogy.

I checked my video streaming service (VUDU), and it says that WB holds the license for the material of the Hobbit. For the LOTR trilogy it says that New Line holds the license.

:shrug:Same company, I guess.
On the LOTR movies I remember the New Line log proceeding the openings. With the Hobbit movies though, it was WB out front.

Only it wasn't.

It should have been dark but funny, and something of a riot - it was dour and somewhat joyless. Cara D. being dire as the Enchantress doesn't count.

'B-'

Needed more one liners. And, like many films, where do you go after saving the entire world?
