Suggestions for a good non English show

That's "Raumpatrouille - Die phantastischen Abenteuer des Raumschiffes Orion", internationally known as "Space Patrol Orion". This series is ... very much a product of its time, which is the mid-1960s. Quite campy.
I remember that. They aren't talking about a... reboot? Sequel?

I can suggest these Italian tv shows:
My Brilliant Friend

On and off. I remember there was talk during the early 00s about Roland Emmerich making a movie remake, but that never materialized. The Orion reboot is a similarly neverending story as the Perry Rhodan movie adaptation.

I'm afraid Germany hasn't been the most friendly nation to film and TV creators wanting to tackle space opera.
The aforementioned Ijion Tichy TV series had no budget to speak of, was aired Monday nights after midnight, got fantastic ratings considering the timeslot, received a German Television Award, and the producers in their acceptance speech all but begged for an order for a second season.
It took more than four years for the second season to materialize, and even that could be said to be because the female lead Nora Tschirner had become one of the biggest German movie stars in the meantime.

quick question, do i need to watch the movie first before the tv series ?
No, there are the same characters with some similarities, but let's say it is set in a "parallel universe" I can't say more because SPOILERS :^)

We have watched a huge amount of non English shows over the years and welcome any suggestions on crime/drama type.

Just some of those I have watched over the years include
Spiral (Engrenages) - French cop show, one of my all time favorites
Borgen - Danish political drama
Forbrydelsen (the Killing) Danish sop show
Braquo - French cop show
Occupied - Norwegian
Das Boot - German
Hatufim - Israeli- the show Homeland was based upon
Money Heist - Spanish....not the best,
Deutschland 83. - German
Gomorrah - Italian crime show
The Valhalla Murders - Icelandic.

Got an Italian police drama show called Suburra next up to watch

There's a show on Netflix that's a modern retelling of Arsène Lupin (Lupin) people can enjoy.

This is going back a ways, so you've probably already seen it... I enjoyed the Van Veeteren mysteries, though I think technically it's a series of TV movies rather than a "TV series." It's based on a series of "Nordic Noir" novels. It's in Swedish, though the setting is a fictitious city in a fictitious country that is kind of an amalgam of various Northern European countries.

The sets are very like the sets from gomorrah, where the chav scum seems to revel in the tacky gold wannabe decor.
you need sunglasses for the interiors of some of the homes. What is it with common criminals and shiny shit ? It screams of common and is totally vulgar.
The gypsies are portrayed like genuine gypsies warts and all and none of the watered down political correctness.
The Anacleti clan is based on the very real Casamonica Clan.

This is one of their houses seized by the police.

I despise gold, its tacky looking and worn mostly by chavs with zero taste. My wedding ring is white gold by choice.
but this stuff you posted is even worse than gold.

It screams common and criminal, let alone their lack of any taste or sense of style.
Yes, it's atrocious.

Yikes, that's gaudy. Is this what a rich family does when they become hoarders?

At least it seems like the Royals have more restraint.

Yep I am watching that next, as we finished season 4 of fargo last night.
and a 4 parter called Bloodlands set in northern Ireland is also on the list
Bloodlines had a terrific twist that made it interesting after a predictable opening, but didn’t deliver after.

The most fucked up thing is the gypsy scum who went to kill aureliano ended up dead and the gypsys are crying for revenge, for something they instigated.
Unfortunately something similar happened in real life too. Movies often present criminals to us as cold and calculating geniuses, but in reality they are often just people with no restraints and inhibitions who listen only to their worst instincts. And often those who think that the laws are only for the stupid and weak get the better of honest people, without being particularly bright or shrewd.

By the way, second season? :)

EDIT: I believe that the plural of "gypsy" is "gypsies" :)

surprised they killed off aureliano......looking forward to season 4.

finished part 2 tonight of Lupin, ridiculous but the wife and I had to see it out
Err, sorry but the season 3 was the last one... :-(
