Suggest a Series for Me to Watch

Whomever asked about the netflix streaming/disc thing -- I do the discs, I can't sit at my machine and watch streaming, lol.

Well, there are plenty of options now that let you stream directly to your TV, so it's a valid question. I stream all the time and never ever do it in front of my computer.

That said, based on the updated list you just posted, I'd really have to suggest Farscape.

Life on Mars (UK) (2 series 16 episodes)
Ashes to Ashes (3 series 24 episodes)
Misfits (2 series 12 episode, although on 6 have aired so far)
The Lost Room (mini series)
I'd suggest Being Human and True Blood if it weren't for the no horror thing, as they both have werewolves and vampires.
Perhaps Survivors, post apocalypse series. There are 2 versions, a 70s version with 3 series, 36 episodes and a more recent one with 2 series and 12 episodes in total.

In spite of your distaste for magic/fantasy, I'd recommend giving Carnivale a try. It's a very adult show, with no magic wands, spells, CG lightning/magic light or anything like that; apart from occasional blackened eyes and atmospheric background work, there's hardly any CG at all. That, and it's as grounded and gritty as about any other series... for instance, it certainly shows Firefly, with whom it shares a sort of magical realism/revisionist Western spirit, for the bubblegum pop that it is. :p

It's the only show where nothing can happen for weeks at a time but you're completely gripped.

I take your point about its initially languid pace, but to its credit, every single episode does move the macro plot along, however minutely. :) Like Rome, the only other show for which I know this to be true (though I'm sure there are others), there isn't a single skippable ep in the lot.

Try The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. A western with a sci-fi storyline. Very good, and starred Bruce Campbell.

Excellent! It certainly does widen the field. I do more streaming (through my Xbox, sometimes through my Blu-ray player, every once in a while on my PC) these days than disc-watching.

Babylon 5 & Crusade
Farscape
Dollhouse
Odyssey 5
Earth: Final Conflict
season 1
The Wire (not sci-fi but I have to echo Lindley here - everyone really should see it)

Some might suggest that description for Rubicon, on AMC. It does move at a very deliberate pace, and I'm hooked.

I just bought this a few weeks ago on Amazon. Only saw a handful back in the day so I'm looking forward to re-exploring this myself.

I'll echo those who suggested The Wire and add Friday Night Lights. Buffy and Angel go without saying.
