Subject matter which makes you skip a film or show

I don't care how good they are, there are many genres, topics and settings that will insure I will NEVER watch a particular show or movie. I actually don't watch that many movies, so don't be surprised that my list rules out most of what is made today:

1. superheroes
2. mafia or crime/police drama
3. medical drama
4. westerns (with the notable exception of Deadwood)
5. horror {"suspense" is ok)

What is your list?

1. "Butt kicking action babe" shows. Dollhouse, which at least had other interesting characters, is the last time I put myself through that crap.

2. Sitcoms with useless male characters.

3. Shows about good looking American teenagers, usually featuring a token, permanently cock-blocked nerd character who they all like "as a friend".

4. "Romantic" comedies. Not sure what's so romantic about a guy changing every aspect of his personality in order to fit what some woman wants.

5. Anything to do with fashion.

6. Although I used to watch all three - the CSI shows. They seem to spend most of their time judging the people they're investigating rather than gather evidence.

I'm very loath to watch any film or show that features Adam Sandler, Keifer Sutherland, Ben Stiller, Ricky Gervais, David Walliams or Robbie Williams. I used to feel the same about Robin Williams but he seems to have turned down his "annoying grinning prat" antics over the last ten years. He's now just about tolerable.

I give homoerotic/slasher/religious (or combinations thereof) movies such as "Sebastiane" and "The Passion of the Christ" a wide berth.

Similarly, I avoid "Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom" as I have no desire to watch people eating shit -- fake or otherwise -- or simulating sodomy.

Well, if we're going to deviate and list what actors make us avoid a film, then I'll say that after watching the utter shitfest of Pineapple Express, I avoid anything with Seth Rogen. Someone at work (younger) told me I was an idiot and that Seth is funny.

Don't see it.

2. mafia or crime/police drama
So I suppose you've never watched Godfather films, The Sopranos, Homicide: LOTS, Prime Suspect, Cracker, The Wire,or The Shield, to name just a few? :wtf:

I can only say that you're losing a lot due to your narrow-mindedness.

I also listed those types of movies/shows as something I don't like and I have seen bits and pieces of those things you listed but I really didn't like any of them. My boyfriend had Scarface on yesterday and after watching only 5 minutes I was disgusted and had to leave the room. The Godfather films were so boring I truly could not believe that they were so popular.

Horror flicks-do nothing for me. Life is scary enough.

Moron comedies-Napoleon Dynamite springs to mind. And Pauley Shore.

Reality TV-if I wanted reality I wouldn't watch TV.

Long, boring romantic dramas-some Anthony Hopkins movies come to mind.

Westerns, except Deadwood. My dad is a huge fan of westerns so I was kind of overexposed to the genre growing up. I hear the voice of John Wayne and I just kind of tune out.

Political thrillers.

Conspiracy theories, unless there is a sci-fi bent to it like the X-Files.

edit:
Was going to mention horror, but on second thought I actually like a lot of horror movies.

There really isn't any one genre I avoid, I just don't like shitty movies/shows. There are excellent films to be found in every genre, although sometimes sorting through the crap can be a bit of a slog.

I must say that I'm a bit surprised at the hate being directed at horror and westerns. I used to be anti-western myself, until I actually took the time to see some good ones. But for the life of me I can't understand the hate for a genre that gave us gems like The Exorcist, Alien (scifi, yes, but scifi horror), and Night of the Living Dead. :wtf:

Top of my list is musicals. My mother used to drag me along to musicals as a child and I hated most of them. However I did go and see Sweeney Todd, which was the first musical I had seen since Tommy.

The rest of my list

Romantic comedies
Adam Sandler movies
Mafia movies
Most World War II movies
Movies about sporting heroes especially if I know nothing about the sport concerned

On TV

American sitcoms (I much prefer British humour)
Medical shows
Soap operas
Big Brother/Survivor-type shows

I don't like spoof movies, gross comedies, gore...some horror is ok.
On tv...90210, Gossip Girl...etc. Reality TV is boring to me now.
This is all on my list too...except I love Gossip Girl.

I don't like romantic comedies generally although I do like romances and more intelligent comedies.

Wayans brothers films. They made one good movie (Don't Be A Menace...) and now everything they touch is crap
Anything with Eddie Murphy

There is sure a lot of Adam Sandler hate here. I would have thought that Will Farrell or Rob Schneider or Seth Rogan would be more hated than Sandler.

I used to hate westerns. Then I saw Lonesome Dove and loved it, so I started watching other westerns. Now I keep finding myself wishing that more westerns were being made.

Saw-type torture porn horror movies

Drug glorification movies (I'm talking about you Pineapple Express)

^^^I also forgot to add so-called 'reality' shows...one of the worst trends IMO on television in recent memory.

There are genres that I typically avoid, but I've made exceptions for just about all the main ones.

Anything by that new wave of "comedy" people. Apatow or whatever his name is. I hate that fat Seth Rogen kid who has now been cloned and is in SGU.

Torture porn. As fas as I am concerned, people that like it should be monitored around small children and animals.

Mob/mafia films. I will not watch a movie where I am rooting for the sociopathic bad guy. Also, just like Klingons, I do not buy their "honour" code. Criminals and thugs do not have honour. They are criminals and I will not glorify them by watching them.

End of the world movies. Had too much exposure to this shit from years of religious bible bashing. Life is for living for me now, not worrying about the world's imminent end. And fuck off with your 2012 prophecies. Do some research and find out what 2012 REALLY was for the Mayans.

War/Iraq films. The whole Middle East thing bores and annoys me. Why would I pay $11.00 to go watch a two hour film about it? If I want to see women walking around in long black coverings with slits for their eyes spitting in rubbish bins I'd just go to my local mall. Bloody place is like little Beirut now.
