STV:TFF - How did this POS get made?!?

^^^ The only 2 Trek movies I've seen in the theater are: First Contact and Nemesis.

I walked out of First Contact thinking "ok that was not too bad"
I walked out of Nemesis with my eye twitching in shock

When I first saw NEM, I was excited because it was my first Trek movie in the theater. Also, my friends and I went opening night (where there were 5 people in the theater with us). It was fun, but I distinctly remember having a bad taste in my mouth from some of the plot points in the movie.

But this one makes every other Trek movie look like a masterpiece.

Sorry..NEMESIS is the movie that killed the Golden Cow...ask Berman...V at least has some scenes most people can bare to watch..NEMESIS? What does it have? A plot that is lifted from Khan, even they admit to that. A villain that makes a Tribble look like a killer...and, sorry, Patrick Stewart comes off as bored in this movie, and it shows...

TREK V I have watched from time to time..I can say, beyond a doubt, I will never watch NEMESIS again...I used the DVD as a frisbee last year, and even then, it nosed dived (like its box office) and shattered into crumbs..

Dude, I am just stating my opinion. Don't be so sensitive about criticism of TFF. And just for you I say it again: TFF makes any other Trek movie (including Nemesis) look like a cinematic masterpiece.

Its really somewhat of a bummer too, the story for TFF was pretty interesting in concept, at least I felt it was. I'll be honest, its not completely awful, just somewhat awful.

That's not to say there weren't things in the movie i enjoyed (there were). Trek to me has always been somewhat like pizza. Even when its bad, its good.

I bought the 10 DVD set about 2-3 months ago. I've watched from TMP-DE to First Contact at least once since then. I've seen TMP-DE twice. I've seen TUC 3 times. I've seen TFF twice. I haven't seen Insurrection even once. The DVD sits there and I'm trying to decide wether it's worth watching. I haven't seen Nemesis even once either. I only saw Nemesis once in the theater, and once when they showed it on TV because there was nothing else.

I took my NEMESIS DVD, from that same collection you have, and played frisbee with it last september....that movie, is by far, the worse Star Trek movie..EVER....It's a blatant ripoff of KHAN, and it is horribly acted, even by Patrick...it causes anyone to see it to nod off and fall asleep, far more than TMP ever did...

BAD BAD movie..and, in 2003 dollars, didn't even make more than TFF!!!!

Not the worst Trek movie (that's NEM by a mile - just flat-out boring!), but it's not very 'cinematic' either. It appears to have been made with a direct-to-video budget.

A year or so ago I did a small experiment to replace a couple of the effects for TFF. I culled elements from TFF and other films and quickly animated a proper photon torpedo. I posted what I had done on YouTube a while back. It's not much, but it gives an idea of what, if anything, some effects replacement might've accomplished. I think the warping off to narrowly miss the torpedo is a lot more energetic in my edit.

I'm not saying V is the best movie, or even in the upper level of Star Trek movies..all I am saying is that it was, to me, more enjoyable than the dark depressing Nemesis...

I'm with you man. TFF is an embarassing piece of crap, while Nemesis is not as bad as some people around here make it out to be. I can think of at least two Trek movies that are worse than Nemesis, namely The Final Frontier and Insurrection.

TFF is so ineptly made that it doesn't even qualify as a film in my book. It's a 'schilm', a piece of crap fabricated by an alien species that doesn't understand a thing about the art of film making.

Yep!!! I thought Shatner's direction way ahead of Nimoy's..Nimoy just had, admittedly, the better script..

Whether Shat's direction was better than Nimoy's is debatable. What isn't is that Shat had a much, much better cinematographer in Andrew Laszlo than Nimoy did in either of his (Charles Correll for TSFS; Donald Peterman for TVH).

The Enterprise was so clearly the TNG set redressed, it was jarring. Let's face it, the Ent-D wasn't cinema quality (which is why they crashed the thing in GEN.)

The props and effects were cheap, too. What can I say? The majority of the movie looks like it belongs on the small screen where you can't see the flaws.

And for what it's worth, TUC doesn't look all that great either (and is highly overrated imho)

Groom Lake demonstrates exactly what William Shatner is capable of as a "filmmaker" when he can't afford to hire industry deities on the order of Andrew Laszlo and Jerry Goldsmith to distract the viewer.

I really dont care about redressing sets since TMP--KHAN--SEARCH FOR SPOCK--VOYAGE HOME--V--TUC--GENERATIONS all did it..what I do care about is if the movie is entertaining...

NEMESIS isn't...there isn't anything worth seeing that idotic movie for ever again...but V has some of Dee's best work..it has great character moments for the big three..and for me, those scenes trump anything that INSURRECTION or NEMESIS managed to do...

It was co-written and directed by William Shatner. Did you actually expect something good from an idiot who has never once demonstrated the ability to comprehend any task more complex than that of walking, talking and waving his arms on cue in front of a camera?
