Stupid Things People Say

I was responding to the thread title. I said "God did it" is a stupid thing that people say. I stand by it. Even if you believe in God, it's still a stupid thing to say. There, end of story.

Oh, this is going to end beautifully.

Nah, I'm done. Anti-God Warrior can get in the last dig if he wants.

I don't mind being done. What I do mind is being attacked, and then not getting a chance to respond.

No, you're being trolled and flamed by a Moderator here who has a reputation for doing so and is admired by many here for doing that.

I reported both of his posts because I think it's pathetic he constantly gets away with it. Nice double-standard, don't you think?

Convo I had Friday morning with an officer in the Sheriff's office. First the comment, then some backstory.

"If you shot the dog, make sure you take some tin-snips and cut off the collar and tags and toss them in someone else trash; then when we show up claim the dog didn't have a collar."

"If someone has a problem with it, you tell them that <officer's name> said to shoot the fucking dog, and if they want to make a issue they can come talk to me"

Now the backstory: We're out in the sticks, rural TN, and people are dumping dogs out here right and left, and people who have lost their homes are leaving their dogs behind to run wild. They're starving, forming into packs, attack people, pets, each other. Add to it the dogs that people have as pets but let roam free, and it's a fucking headache around here. I went over to the county-sheriff's office (they also supervise the animal control office) to see what could done and what home owners could legally do on their own property. They've thrown their hands up in the air about it, saying they don't have enough animal-control officers or kennel space. So they're (unofficially) telling folks to get low-cal Varmint guns (.22 pistols/rifles, need a permit) or high power pellet rifles (which fall outside TN's gun permit laws and are legal to carry without a permit and need no registration).

And yes, I did report him to his superiors-- not that I suspect it will do much good.

Oh, if only I could shoot stray animals here. Annoying things, and they are not half as bad as the ones you describe.

*We were in Paphos, south Cyprus, in the airport*

Woman: "Hmp, I don't understand this price! Why is it so much! Cyprus is NOT in the EU!"
Cashier: "Maam, it certainly is"
Woman: "Oh okay then. I'll just buy my cigarettes on the plane"
Cashier: *facepalm*

Her: "Does this dress make me look fat?"
Him:"No; its the fat that makes you look fat"

It's only that first sentence that's stupid. Because whenever anyone says that, they *know* they look fat, and they will not be satisfied by ANY possible answer to that question. The second sentence is brute realism, yeah, but not stupid.

Sure there're a couple of answers:

"It makes you look heavier than you are."

"It doesn't compliment you."

"It looked better on the hanger."

"It's okay, but the color doesn't suit you."

"The neckline/length/sleeves is/are all wrong for you."

One I heard at a wedding reception once, by the groom just a few minutes after the vows: "Damn your sister looks fucking hot!"

I will say this for my friend, it was a short marriage.

I don't think it's strictly legal, if at all (getting conflicting info on that one). But more of a "if the animal is attacking you" sort of thing. The problem we're having is that there's too many dogs and cats and not enough food. Folks around here have had their cats killed and eaten by stray dogs, a farmer up the road from me had one of his horses attacked-- the horse lived, but he had to beat the dog off of it with a bat. As I said, it's not helping that more and more people are letting their pet dogs roam free and forage for their food rather than feeding them at home.

We're starting to get concerned about the risk to the kids in the valley. There's a county commission meeting towards the last of the month, a bunch of us are going to try to be there and see if we can get something done.

If you're a man, none of those answers are safe. Some are asking for a fight, and others will make her ask "Are you sure you're straight?"
