Stupid Products People Buy

Also, if I grated the cheese myself, that would mean I'd have to CLEAN the cheese grater

Before you grate cheese, spray the grater very lightly with non-stick spray. Grate your cheese. Put it on your dish. Prior to enjoying said dish, throw your grater under hot water from the faucet. Rince all sides, and all of a sudden, well, shit, no cleaning involved.
I think you underestimate my laziness regarding dishes.

Energy drinks.

Um why? Have you ever had one?

It occurs to me the title of this thread is a misnomer, what's stupid to some people is essential to others...

RAMA

I would never buy one. It kills me that the people I see drinking them are the ones who don't go to bed to get a decent night's sleep, eat crappy food, and don't exercise. Then there are those who mix the energy drinks with Vodka and even beer.

No thanks.

While I agree about mixing energy drinks with alcohol (stimulant + depressant? sensible.) you've clearly not been to university if you don't see a genuine use for energy drinks. 'poor night sleep, crappy food and no exercise' are pretty much a given at finals time. Before them, it was coffee, so nothing's exactly new there.

Maybe, but when I'm seeing people pounding energy drinks like mad, and they aren't participating in final exams, then I think it's an issue. Sort of like the overweight woman in my brother's office who is sick all the time, yet she goes through about seven Diet Cokes each day. Diet cola is poison as it is, and seven per day is really bad. Same for these energy drinks.

There's nothing an energy drink can do that coffee can't.

Both drinks are for one purpose: to give you that buzz. Coffee isn't anywhere near as vile a concoction as energy drinks are. And I'd wager that it isn't as dangerous to the body, either. So why not just drink coffee and be done with it?

As long as you don't buy excessively expensive brand-name energy drinks (Red Bull :klingon::klingon:) I agree with RAMA that it's not stupid at all, they work quicker than coffee, and they work. Sometimes you just have to stay awake and attantive.

Except taste good.

I hate coffee. But a can of Red Bull in the morning can do me good.

I have the opposite reaction. Red Bull is some of the most disgusting sludge I have ever tasted. So is that blue stuff that tastes like mutant bubble gum. Coffee, OTOH, tastes good to me. At least with sugar. :techman:

Sometimes you just have to stay awake and attantive.

True. But sometimes the cure is worse than the ailment.

You know, there's a good chance that there are people who drink energy drinks who don't fit the model you've mentioned above.

Maybe, but when I'm seeing people pounding energy drinks like mad, and they aren't participating in final exams, then I think it's an issue.

Wait, what? Are you saying it's okay to drink an energy drink when you have a final exam, but not otherwise?

Sort of like the overweight woman in my brother's office who is sick all the time, yet she goes through about seven Diet Cokes each day.
Is the Diet Coke directly to blame for her weight and illnesses?

Diet cola is poison as it is, and seven per day is really bad. Same for these energy drinks.
Seven energy drinks a day is really bad? Or any at all?

No, I was pointing out to the above that people don't just drink energy drinks because they have final exams.

As for the rest of your inquiries, enjoy:

One of the problems, Slattery says, is that the Food and Drug Administration does not regulate the amount of caffeine in "herbal supplements," the category under which these energy drinks fall. To complicate matters, the manufacturers of these products don't always list caffeine by name on the nutritional label. Instead, they will use "herbal" names, like guarana or taurine, among a host of others.
"People may not realize they're getting caffeine and not realize the milligrams of caffeine in a drink because it's not listed no the label," Slattery said.
For example, the nutritional label on a popular 24-oz energy drink says it contains 1,000-mg of taurine and 2,500-mg of a caffeine and guarana-containing "energy blend" per serving. That's essentially 3,500-mg of caffeine in a single serving. However, just one can of the drink contains three servings--so by drinking one can, you're actually consuming 10,500-mg of caffeine!
The figures are even more astounding when compared to the daily recommended dose of caffeine.

The caffeine that is found in energy drinks is dangerous enough on its own. Not only is caffeine addictive, it acts as both a stimulant and a diuretic. As a stimulant, caffeine can make you have anxiety attacks, heart palpitations, and insomnia.

When consumed in large or regular quantities, caffeine can also make you jittery or irritable. As a diuretic, caffeine causes your kidneys to remove extra fluid from your body. If you consume energy drinks while sweating, these effects can be particularly dangerous because you can become severely dehydrated quickly.
Many younger people have started mixing energy drinks with alcohol because it makes them feel alert and energetic, even when they are drunk. Because alcohol and caffeine dehydrate our bodies, especially after a night of dancing. There have been many instances, where energy drinks mixed with alcohol has caused severe dehydration.
Because so much additional research needs to be done on the other ingredients found in energy drinks, I recommend all people avoid drinking energy drinks, they only ad more toxins to an already toxin burdened body and decrease our bodies internal water supply and natural detoxification processes.
The bottom line concerning energy drinks is that medical professionals simply do not know the long-term effects of consuming these beverages. It is known, however, that large amounts of sugar and caffeine are harmful to our bodies. For people to utilize energy drinks during exercise or other strenuous activity compounds the problem of dehydration, and does nothing to provide the body with any necessary nutrients or fluids.

People who are used to of this drink say that it's very effective. But you should be aware about the effect & consequences of the product. This is true because once you make use of it or take it in a wrong manner you can face some health problems. There are short and long-term effects of energy drinks though.

  • The long-term effects of energy drink ingredients are that you may be addicted of this drink & addiction of any thing is harmful.
  • In these types of drinks it has not been mention any where that whether any medical conditions or related prescription medication will react with them.
  • Energy drinks must be taken properly because the ingredients used in it are powerful enough to affect your system & body.
  • Ingredients used in these drinks can affect your heartbeat and blood pressure. This arouses awareness from medical specialists who have conducted studies about the effects of energy drinks.
  • However it doesn't means that harmful effects of these types of drinks can't be prevented. The problem is only how to drink & in what amount that can be easily digested.
  • Don't ever try to make energy drink an alternative for the lost water in the system while doing exercise because the caffeine in the energy drink can leave a dehydrating effect on your body. You should prefer to have something natural during exercises.
  • The most important point is that you should never combine energy drinks with alcohol because energy drink is a stimulant while alcohol is a depressant. You can imagine yourself the contrasting effect that this combination can bring in your system.
All those side & long term effects are just due to improper use of energy drinks & if you want to enjoy them life time drink it keeping those points in mind & in very limited amount. If you want to undergo the above effects then you must violate the rules. All these effects are shared with you all by me to make you aware about the product & its effect but it doesn't mean that you should leave drinking it. Enjoy your energy drink but with little care………….
