Stuff that make you wonder but not own thread worthy

I guess JL can order his Earl Grey while sitting on the throne.

Are you talking about the one that is Aft-starboard, near the Observation Lounge?

Oh, wait a minute. His Ready Room has one?! I wonder if it was still there when they installed the side stations in Generations.

My mind is completely blown right now, and I didn't think a toilet would do that (lol). I also forgot they have turbolifts stacked like a small Pez dispenser. Where do those ramps (DN) go?

I'm a bit confused on the season 1 timeline. In broadcast order 'The Big goodbye' comes before '11001001' and in 'The Big goodbye' they are talking about heading next for that computer upgrade which I assume is '11001001'. But it doesn't happen until 2 episodes later. Even more confusing is 'The Big Goodbye' is Stardate 41997.7 while '11001001' is Stardate 41365.9 which means that 'The Big Goodbye' actually takes place after.

TNG season 1 was pretty loose with the stardates, except for it being all in 41000.

However, from season 2 TNG forward, they were pretty consistently in order.

Maybe the Class 2 shuttles are self cleaning, like the Enterprise. So, you just go where ever, and those passive laser-beam cleaners take care of it for you.

I've been trying to work out what military rank Gowron holds before his ascension to chancellor. It looks like he might be a lieutenant colonel

I still can't wrap my head around why they'd need any upgrades at all, mere months into the ship being commissioned. The D, more than any ship before, seemed to be built to leave & be out of range of such things for years. It's brand new!

On the face it seems odd, but lets look back. VERY shortly after Enterprise ! was de-commissioned, the Enterprise B took over, which was only after the apparent failure of transwarp drive -- which happened during the Enterprise re-fit run.

Then not too long after that, significant improvements were made with the Enterprise C. Then major changes with the Enterprise D about two decades later.

Then during the run of the Enterprise D we got the Defiant, qauntum torpedoes, Voyager and the new experimental drive system. Improvements came fast and heavy once Voyager was back home.

Makes sense upgrades happen fast. Plus, and upgrade may have been faulty of bad and needed to be fixed soon there after.

How long is your phone ever meant to be out at the edges of our quadrant of the galaxy? :guffaw:

It's a nice way of looking at it, but I still had the impression they were meant to be boldly going where no one had gone before, for quite some time. This is just another example why that really was never going to happen.

I'm starting to get the impression that no Enterprise got to do deep space exploration ever since Kirk's stints with the Constitution. The C was hanging around dealing with Romulans & Klingons still. The D gets stymied every season with local BS. The E never does diddly, & maybe the B pulled some deep space duty after they pieced it back together following the maiden voyage... Maybe. :shifty:

Perhaps this has been mentioned on here before, but I've always been bothered about something that occurred at the end of the second season of Picard. So, Rios gets left behind in 2024 and the gang heads on back to their own time and learns about the rosy life he lived out with his family.

Am I the only one who watched that asking, "What a minute. Did they just leave Rios behind a few years away from a worldwide nuclear holocaust?!! What's going on?!" :wtf:

The implication was that the prime timeline was restored to its previous condition, WWIII and all. How could he have lived out such a great life with all of the accomplishments mentioned while eking out an existence in the middle of a postapocalyptic ruin?

As Spock would say military secrets are the most fleeting.

And TNG never struck me as out very far. They ferried dignitaries, stopped by starbases, and checked in on colonies.

I guess I never had that impression. It was routine patrols.

Exactly. That's what they were doing, but they were meant to be boldly going out on deep space assignment, discovering new life & new civilizations, on a ship that, more than any other before her, was a self sufficient living city among the stars. Docking a few months into commission, for software upgrades, already kind of flies in the face of that mission statement imho

I guess so. I guess I felt the mission statement was just a catch phrase and not what was actually going to happen.

Gowron wore the Klingon Defense Force uniform when we first met him, but we have no idea what his rank was. It was never even brought up.

(IIRC, the KDF standard uniform has no rank insignia of any kind.)

Also we don't know for sure that the KDF even has the rank of lieutenant colonel. It seems to have fewer ranks than, say, Starfleet.

There is an insignia of some sort on the collar which does appear to be a rank insignia as there are variations in it.

"The High Ground" - how come Worf proudly states that there are no other explosive devices in the area? Wouldn't he have scanned before saying it's okay for the rest of the team to come down? Or if the Ansata separatists are just quietly sauntering in with a boomboom thing, why not have the tricorder scanning continually?

In fairness of course, without that explosive opening we'd not have much of an episode. Or the same episode, just not as exciting with Beverly being kidnapped. Not to mention, hard deadlines on script writing makes it impossible to fix any boo-boos as such, and the episode makes up for it in other scenes. Just not the one where thankfully Geordi has a sonic cutting gizmo on a nearby bench all ready to go, don't they even have a cupboard in Engineering? Actually, there's a neat solution as to why they have clutter on all the countertops there: Cats love to jump up onto countertops unless there's stuff there to convince them there won't be a safe landing. As Spot isn't the only cat on the ship, some cats are sentient and are trained crewmembers but we're never told either way, and cats love to jump on consoles - as we've seen in other episodes. Now replace Riker with a cat in the following scene, it's food for thought:

(Seriously, look at where Spot's sitting and how many commands did he accidentally initiate? I think he wiped out Dr Graves' content from the computer. Oops. Data even says he's happy in the scene so he's got emotions too. )
