Stuff that make you wonder but not own thread worthy

That could've made for an interesting episode. Lore shows up, but he doesn't look like Lore anymore, or Data changes his whole look for a mission or something

It would.

Certainly after we've learned that Data and Lore were created to resemble their creator, and that those Soong genes had the strange tendency to produce identical-looking people for over two centuries ;)

  • Whats kinda... weird. Is that Soong used to say I always loved that face to Data. Is he just vain? :cardie:

He did make at least 3 that all looked like himself, probably all 5, he adds himself to Data's dream program, when he unlocks it. Plus, he goes to great lengths to see that before he dies, Data knows the reason he made them was so that he could have a sense of immortality. Add all that with the fact that his own wife mockup left him for feeling neglected & I'd say yeah, he's pretty self-important.

Well, yeah I know this. I just meant him saying he loved Datas face which was his just white white with gold eyes.

I have a theory that the reason Data, Lore & B4 are golden skinned is not out of necessity. People had been making realistic looking androids of one type or another for like over a century. He did it deliberately because he wanted to use his face as the template, but having indistinguishable clones of himself running around would've been really unpopular with the colonists lol.

I think Data/Lore/B4 are shiny with yellow eyes in an attempt to deliberately offset the ‘Uncanny Valley’ effect.

When Androids were designed which looked perfectly human, they creeped people out. So, mitigate the issue by making them clearly artificial.

It’s not like Soong couldn’t get the right skin colour; or that he was incapable of making human looking eyes. We know from as far back as TOS that androids can be indistinguishable from humans… so it was a choice on the part of Soong.

I always wondered why Picard would on occasion wear a grey shirt under a red jacket and what the reason was for. I actually thought it was snazzy.

Captains' prerogative. So he could cut down on all the Picard maneuvers lol. That other top rode up constantly. It kind of started as an away mission rig, IIRC. Made more sense too, the option to go lighter or heavier, depending on away conditions after you get there. It did look better too imho, particularly the one on the left

Besides, captains tend to get at least one variant style of uniform as an option to wear other than the usual.

TOS established this with Kirk and the wraparound uniform he'd wear frequently.

I just remembered that Bones often had a shinier short sleeve version of the medical top too

Honestly, the D crew have lots of leeway. I actually was quite fond of Pulaski's almost dress uniform looking top with pants, over Bev & her green lab coat lol

I do wonder why they switched from leather with fewer lines to fabric with more lines on the shoulders. Those shoulder lines also make it a precursor of the FC uniforms :D

I never thought Picard's pleather shoulders looked all the great. It was too awkward fitting compared to the relaxed fit cloth shoulders

Why, in Measure Of A Man, did Picard not use Datas decision to join Starfleet as a reason why he wasn't property? The argument about the computer refusing a refit is moot as that was developed FOR Starfleet, probably by Starfleet. Data was not and he chose to enter the academy of his own free will.
