Strange Request

Okay, I need some help. I've searched the internet high and low and can't find what I'm looking for, so I came to you guys.

I recently bought a pair of jeans for myself. I love them, they are very comfortable. They are actually some cotton/polyester hybrid that are made to look like jean material but feel softer. So I have worn them a few times since I bought them and have noticed a very irritating situation occurring that I need some help solving.

The front pockets are constantly riding up whenever I walk. I take just a couple of steps and the pocket material is puffing out of the top of the pocket and frankly looks fugly. It is even worse on the right pocket, which has one of those mini-pockets sewn onto it. I am constantly sticking my hands in my pockets to push down the material, only to have it ride up again.

This is really annoying the shit out of me. I love these pants otherwise, but this pocket situation is unacceptable. I tried wearing a belt and it seemed to make a slight difference, but the pants fit fine otherwise so I don't see why a belt is necessary (I hate belts). And it didn't really even help all that much. I tried using double-sided tape to stick the pocket material to the inside of my pant leg, but the tape was pretty much useless, even though it was the stickiest tape I could find it became unsticky in a matter of seconds after application. Am I going to have to super glue the damn pocket on??? And I'm sure once I wash it whatever I apply will go away anyway.

Any advice? A way I could stitch it in place without it being noticeable on the front of my pants? I am desperate here.

Could you just place a stitch or two attaching the pockets to the jeans without it being noticed? Like at the bottom of the pocket, or even really low on the sides of the pocket?

Or what about something like steam a seam? I don't know if it would stay attached or if the outline would show through on the other side. Oh and if you do sew it or attach it in some way, make sure there's enough slack for when you are standing, sitting, moving around, etc.

A few blind stitches (the kind of stitch used when hemming) from the inside of the pocket should work, no?

Very fiddly to do, mind.

You might try some hemming tape. Put it around the pocket and then iron it down. Should stick, even through washing. Other than that, you might trying sewing the sides of the pocket down or simply sew the pockets shut and cut the extra fabric out all together.

If you go to a clothes alteration place they'll have good options.

How about get rid of the pockets all together and stitch em closed?

A great suggestion...I had never heard of hemming tape before, but it sounds like it would be worth a try.

Do you actually use the pockets? I've found that girls tend to not use pockets. If not, can you just cut them out?

I say just sew them shut and cut the pocket material out entirely. That is, unless you want to keep the pockets, of course.

The title of this thread made me think of this.

As for your plight, I agree with the poster that said take it to a tailor or dry cleaner (they do tailoring work generally) and see what they suggest.
