They should be together, and Peck's Spock is awesome as is Jess Bush's Chapel.
Well, I would brace yourself then, because I would bet real money that we will meet Leila Kalomi before this show ends.
They're prepping for Roger Korby, so I can totally see Leila turning up as well.
I think the writers of TOS disagreed.
TOS had Spock in nearly as many romantic situations (or potential ones) as they actually depicted Kirk.
I mean, maybe. But if you rewatch that TOS episode, it's just as likely that Leila was only a passing acquaintance with an unrequited crush as that she was an actually important figure in Spock's life.
I could easily see Leila Kolami appearing in SNW. Especially since in the coming season they'll obviously be taking a look at Spock's emotional state post relationship with Chapel.
Now more than ever I'm convinced that Leila will turn up in Season 3.

TOS ended decades ago. Anything they do with Kirk and Spock now will reframe that era the same way SNW is reinventing Pike's character and captaincy.
Which is great.
And yet the writers are breaking them up.
Other than the Gorn, they're trying really hard to line up with TOS.
FFS, they temporally made Pike Fleet Captain when he met Kirk the first time so it wouldn't contradict that line from The Menagerie.
