This episode is popular to a lot of people apparently. For those who don't understand my confusion and the viewpoint of those who don't like Lower Decks, try to imagine if you wake up one day and look on your local Star Wars website and find out that Jar-Jar Binks is suddenly one of SW's most popular characters, there's a whole tv show about him, the crossover episode of Andor where Jar-Jar appeared is considered one of Andor's best episodes, and if you say anything remotely critical about the episode (not to the point where you're hazing Ahmed Best towards suicide of course, that was horrific that people actually did that) but just minor stuff saying this show and this character aren't really that great, you're told off as saying you don't like Star Wars and that you're not really a Star Wars fan.
Ok, so a Star Wars episode made not for me.

That's OK. I still have the stuff I like. I'll take the risky assumption that you have Trek you like. No one's fan status is being questioned and not all Trek is for everyone. Hell, I haven't even liked most of this season yet I doubt I'll somehow have my fan card revoked.

I take issue with the Jar Jar Binks comparison. LD is not Jar Jar Binks level. LD is a funny and charming meta look at Trek. But maybe you should ask yourself why this crossover is the most popular SNW episode (currently standing at 91.4%)? Perhaps you should not dismiss our opinions so quickly? And nobody is saying that you are not a true fan. But you should not assume either that "your Trek" is the only correct Trek and anything different is somehow not "real Trek". You may not like LD or this crossover but it is still Trek. Heck, I don't like Discovery but it is still Star Trek. And Discovery fans are still Trek fans.
We're all Trek fans. Kind of defeats the purpose if we're not.

Because people are squeezing over at and not "grading" it? This episode is really a good as Far Beyond the Stars, The Inner Light, Best of Both Worlds, In the Pale Moonlight, The Visitor, City on the Edge of Forever?

Really? This episode is THAT good? People are reacting, not grading. If you think this episode is good, fine, if you think it's a 10, fine. But it's 91% a 10? This episode as that perfect, flawless and fantastic? Really?

An episode can also be light hearted or comedic and still be a 10. Like "TRIALS AND TRIBBLE-ATIONS" or "IN THE CARDS".

The episodes you mention ARE great and worthy of being a 10, but they are also a different tone. Even within those you mention, "THE VISITOR" and "IN THE PALE MOONLIGHT" are tonally different episodes, but they are both a 10. Why? Because they excelled at what they were going for.

The same is also true of "Those Old Scientists". It set out to do a light-hearted, fun episode that had emotional beats peppered within. It did this in spades. It did what it set out to... flawlessly and fantastically. So yes, "Those Old Scientists" deserves to be a 10.

Although this was certainly entertaining hour, I do have mixed feelings as somebody who isn’t really a fan of LD.

Much of this reminded me of a Star Trek version of Idiocracy. I mean, let’s just say, if I’d been one of the Enterprise crew I’d be MORE than a little worried about the future of Starfleet. How did goofballs like Boimler and Mariner ever get into Starfleet? I’d be wondering if there was something in the water supply, or if this pair were somewhat mentally impaired. I just cannot picture actual Star Trek Starfleet officers behaving like zany cartoon characters.

They did tone down the hyperactivity somewhat, and on the whole, for what it was, they kind of pulled it off. I didn’t hate it! Now, I’m just rather scared about the next episode! I’m not a fan of musicals at the best of times.

I think perhaps you have completely forgotten about "The Trouble with Edward" and just about every episode that Reginald Barkley was in.

And those two weren't even in the second string makeup of the Star Fleets of their eras.

I'm pretty sure even in todays Navy there are members who would invoke these characters.

"The Trouble With Edward(SHO)" makes LD look like a Starfleet Behavioral Training Video and the characters AREN'T being used as examples of "What Not To Do."

I did completely forget about “The Trouble with Edward”; I watched it once and don’t remember much.

Barclay never felt like a cartoon character or parody to me, though. He did make me wonder how he got into Starfleet, but I thought Dwight Schultz was nicely nuanced in his performance; he could have gone over the top and made Barclay feel like a joke, but he never did.

Yeah I’m quite sure the navy has people like that. Starfleet as has been portrayed in virtually all Trek is wholly different to today’s navy though.

Hell, Archer was an outright bigot against Vulcans until fairly well into his ten years aboard the NX-01. He did things that future Starfleet brass and historians would look down on with great distaste. Yet he's one of Starfleet's most legendary heroes and, according to a certain infamous Starfleet Academy history professor, the greatest explorer of the 22nd century.

From this viewer perspective it was a cute joke but a 23rd century officer image for 24th century recruits..

This image was extremely popular for well over 100 years.
