Una: The quartermaster says fixing the issue requires ripping out the uniform synthesizers, sir. We're going to have to go back to traditional fabrics and techniques. No more hd silicone microprinted details . . . ever.

Una: Needle and thread to stitch on the rank stripes, like in the old days, Captain. Quartermaster's Mate Antoine Picard just transferred over from the U.S.S. Singer, sir - word is that he has the skills to make it sew.
Anyone else actually putting together a costume? I have an Una skant uniform pretty much done. I didn't get the replica boots, so I'm altering another pair to look more accurate.
Maybe they spilled corn...on their sleeves?

I got a badge from QMX, a tunic from Cosermart, have trousers on order from them and am waiting for the boots from Fluevog.
I want to do a custom tunic, but that's taking a lot of research.

I just remembered how they forgot the braids entirely in the Discovery season 2 premiere and had to CGI them on.
SNW probably has the best fucking costume, set and prop design of ANY of the Star Trek shows. Or movies. This brings SO MUCH to the show! All the other modern Trek shows (or the "old" ones from TNG onwars) look drab in comparison. The mixture of modern & 60s retro style works so crazy good for a sci-fi pulp adventure show - it's really a shame it hasn't been done before.
Amazing. I love the gold as well as the more wine-colored red. The only thing I'm not really warming up to is the blue - I think Dr. M'Bengas more brighter, more blue-ish blue works better. Then again - details.
I wonder if it's possible to dye the fabric the right color. RIT dye can customized to match pantone colors.
Well, most of the available knits that seem appropriate are mainly polyester - real hard to home-dye well, apparently.
However, since the Cosermart costumes don't seem to come with laundry tags, it's hard to say what kind of fabric they are. They could have a lot of viscose or nylon (good). It may be worth an experiment. The costumes are serged, though, so they don't have much in the way of inner seams to clip and test with. You'd have to risk the garment.
That said, Rit used to have a service where they'd help you match a color sample. Is that what you're talking about? A friend got good formulas for the TNG colors that way, years ago.
As far as silicone screen printing...I got nuthin'...so far.
Cosermart's real good quality, for the price - things like this used to cost a lot more, when you could find them at all. Thanks for pointing me at their eBay store.
It was, they still do it.
I would prefer broken ones as well as they're easier to identify. It was also a poor choice to make the science and ops stripes in blue and red. They're very hard to make out.
They only time enlisted personnel were somewhat realistically depicted were in the TWOK era.
The easiest fix would be to "promote" everyone in Season 2 and get Chapel a new one.
Can anyone pull a screenshot of Chapel wearing a never before seen white uniform tunic (with standard uniform pants) from today’s “All Those Who Wander”? It’s underneath her jacket. I’d love to see it more often.

Given that the Cage was a little off too I think we're kind of in a middle ground that will be settled with new uniforms coming up.
So, the closest match so far is in the center, overlaid in the picture by the top half of the Pantone color swatch.
IRL, it's a little brighter gold than the "Chai Tea" color. It's a 90/10 blend of polyester and Spandex, which might be enough to tint it a little bit darker with khaki or light brown home dye.
It's also about 1.5 mm thick and rather spongy in texture - it's what's called "scuba cloth" now, and I'm not sure how it would tailor around the collar and cuffs.
There's also the question of the 3D embossing, of course. I'm thinking that's a transparent silicone ink that takes up the color of the fabric itself. Short of finding a source for that, a shadow silk screen print might do.
Not in a hurry, here. Also not sure that these shirts are very flattering to a guy my age, no matter how much time I put in at the gym - gravity does its work.
