Yeah, Jenny needs to be brought back. The character is too good not to.
Oh yes. That bit where she says "Hi boys" looking like a blonde Lara Croft completely convinced me I was watching a brilliant and original character. What a fantastic piece of writing, and no wonder the episode is known by all as the finest Doctor Who has to offer. Come to think of it, she'll probably end up being River Song. There, I've solved that one too.

On the upside, that episode gave us the best fandom has ever had to offer over on The [Leisure] Hive:

Just being his daughter in DNA terms means shes a pretty important character whose story needs addressing in the future, plus I think it would be funny to see her and Matt Smith in scenes.

I always had an idea of a story involving her and The Master, were she would die but not before giving our Doctor several new lives. I know her ability to regenerate is up in the air but I liked the idea of that planet revival device in TDD episode bringing her back activated the regeneration ability in her though without having to change her face (Also I would only give her 6 not 12). Also the lives she gives over in my story would mean The Doctor could turn into a female in the future so giving the chance for an actress to take on the role of the Doctor in the future.

i know the thread title is 'watched' but i recently enjoyed "Blood of the Daleks" and was quite happy with it. not overwhelmed, but it was a fun 8th doctor audio. as far as watched, i've been following along with the whonoobs as they go through from the first episode onward. right now they're up to halfway through the marco polo serial. the two reviewers do go into some deapth with their analysis of each story and that alone makes it all the more worthwhile.

if anyone's interested it's at http://whonoobs.blogspot.com/

they're up to the 5th episode of 'marco polo' and it's fun to follow along.

Watched "Pyramids of Mars" 1-3 last night with some family. It holds up well. I still laugh at the scene where the two mummies crush the poacher to death with their T'Pol-style cleavage. Easily one of the funniest visuals I've seen in DW.

Does anyone know why they thought it was a good idea to give the mummies such spectacular bustlines?

Who said Jenny was ever an original and brilliant character? I liked Georgia's performance and though the character was interesting. The episode was average at best if I want to be critical but I don't think it was ever meant to be anything poignant. It was your typical war is bad, fighting starts without knowing or communicating why we're fighting, type of episode. It is the first episode where I gave Martha the nickname Martha the Strong. She always seemed to be given challenges and was separated from the Doctor.

Stories I've watched since I went into the hospital ... The Space Museum/The Chase, The Time Monster, Underworld, Stones of Blood, Androids of Tara, Power of Kroll, Armageddon Factor, Destiny of the Daleks, City of Death, and Horns of Nimon ... I'll have all those typed up sooner or later for the Classic thread.

Also re-watched all of series five, Bride, Partners in Crime, Tooth and Claw, and a few other random new series episodes.

Well assuming the post office ever start delivering again I'll be watching Pyramids of Mars next!!

^ Just finished rewatching that one, and I just saw episode one of Creature from the Pit last night. It has a completely different feel.

I really like Creature from the Pit. The combined nuttiness of David Fisher, Graham Williams, Douglas Adams & Tom Baker is a joy to behold.

And it has Catweazle in it!

It also has one of my favorite lines in all of Doctor Who -

"She's tipped the ambassador into a pit and threw astrologers at him!" - The Doctor

Just watched episode 4 of Creature. Very silly, but kind of fun. One of the bonus features was a mini-doc about Erato. I can't believe anyone ever thought the "pseudopod" was a good idea. It would have been a lot less giggle-inducing if they had changed the proportions, at least.

I picked up a few stories on VHS at Oxfam (just in time, they seemed to have dumped their stock sadly), I got through The Caves of Androzani (quote good), The Keeper of Traken (not too bad) and Vengance on Varos (not that bad either).

Thinking back, I think Caves is probably the first bit of Who I can clearly remember, especially the murder in the lift shaft and the guys in the caves at the very start running around blasting things with Uzis.

I watched Caves of Androzani a few days ago with someone who'd not seen it before. It's just brilliant. I'm not sure it could ever be bettered, even though I tend to say Revelation of the Daleks is my favourite story.

I don't dislike it, it's a fine story, but I've never seen it as particularly stand-out material. I've never been quite sure what all the fuss was about. I can think of a half dozen or so stories which I personally like better.

I thought perhaps Caves was remembered fondly as a bit of a high point before the descent into the Baker and McCoy years, when the series was squeezed a little.

I think it's just such a brilliantly constructed story of memorable characters and fantastically directed too. Even though I'd seen it quite a few times, I was still really invested in it and the effective dark ending (Stotz shoots Jek, Salateen android kills Stotz, Jek kills Morgus, Jek dies in the android's arms). Though no one's especially good, we can sympathise with Jek's Phantom of the Opera situation and Chellak's frustration. It's a story all about bad people and death, and of course Peri and the Doctor are dying from about 10 minutes in. I think everything working in the story's favour (writing, direction) to make a fantastic piece of television is a similar situation with Revelation of the Daleks the following year. It's a shame the series was put on hiatus as the original season 23 sounded like it had potential to be another strong one - Saward carrying on, another Robert Holmes story we never got, and Harper being slated to direct again. Then when Saward left during Trial, it effectively meant a breaking of ties with the best things of that era (like Harper). I'm quite fond of the McCoy era on the whole (at least the latter two seasons), but it's a damn shame Grade fucked things up.

I concur with the earlier love for "The Pirate Planet" and Mary Tamm as Romana. I wish they'd found a way to bring back the pirate captain for another story.

Recently I watched some VHS tapes of mid-late Tom Baker-- "The Face of Evil," "Image of the Fendahl," & "Nightmare of Eden." I like Leela's introduction in "The Face of Evil" and the twist about where the Sevateem & the Tesch came from. But the other 2 don't stand out very well at all.

I also breezed through all of Matt Smith's episodes in a few days. Damn, that man is so awesome. And Amy is a lot more enjoyable the 2nd time around, especially in the "Meanwhile in the TARDIS" shorts.
