the doctor who audio stories should be made into animated episodes like the infinite quest...:techman:
I like this idea. Perhaps not quite the same animation style as with The Infinite Quest, but animating some of the best BFs could be a terrific way of seeing more of the classic Doctors. There's 38 weeks of the year with no DW on, after all.

Well, I've just finished Sisters of the Flame/Vengeance of Morbius.

Oh my freaking gawd!

Brilliant story, way too short. Ends on a massive, massive cliffhanger.

Some really nice performances from McGann (as always), Sheridan Smith, Samuel West and (yet again) Alexander Siddig push this one over the edge (literally!) to sheer brilliance..

You know, it's sad we only got the one onscreen movie with the 8th doctor (and a forgetable story at that), but it's some consolation that there are all these audios. And McGann really seems to relish doing them. He really puts himself into the role and delivers a commanding performance.

*Sigh* Now I'm going to have to try and find the next story just to discover what happened after that incredibly massive cliffhanger. But it's stories like this that make me want to go on and get all of the eighth doctor audios, which one day I will endeavour to do.

However, the ending seems to make it a little difficult to bring back Jamie yet again (though anything is possible) which seems a shame as I would like to hear more from this doctor/companion duo in the future.

Oh, I don't know about that. Now Six knows exactly where Jamie is, and can visit him anytime. Without going into spoiler territory, of course.

They can have any number of adventures now. As can Zoe.

I guess so. But it just seems like they'll need to contrive it a little more than if Jamie had of simply stayed on as part of the TARDIS crew..

Well, that would be fab, but priorities please - first they should animate all the missing stories from Seasons 1 to 6. To have only The Invasion as a showcase of what is possible, and yet have no follow up at all is tantalizing and frustrating.

agreed..

Just saw the fantastic "Time Meddler" serial, and wow! what a magnificent story!! The doctor was kickass!! serously, he was in major form, and a lot of action as well..To see him disguised as a monk, and to see him kicking a viking's butt, wow! I was like, who knew the old doc had a heroes heart in him!?

anyways, a wonderful mix of fun, mystery, tricks and the fact that we got to see another time lord's tardis for the first time, was absolutely amazing! it was a Mark 4! or did he say type 4?? either way, it was a wonderful episode.. and made me wonder... did the Monk regenerate through time and die in the pas ton earth, and if so, what other sort of havok did he create? will we see future doctors encounter this long dead fellow time lord?

regardless of wether or not this story arc is ever fully explored, the Time Meddler was a great and wonderful show, the Tardis set was magnificent, the acting was spot on, and the props were in great shape and wonderfully designed and manufactured well..

I rate on a scale of 1 to 5 thumbs..(1 being poor watch at your own peril! 2 being poor but watchable, 3 being fair, and okay, 4 being good would watch again, to 5 being totally Awesome- highly recommended!)

:techman::techman::techman::techman::techman: Totally Awesome!

Peter Butterworth does a good job with The Monk imo. Shame he was only used once more (in The Dalek's Masterplan.

Still, I guess the character was a bit of a dead-end, story wise. He's not as compelling as say The Rani or The Master really. He's more of an annoyance than a genuine threat - his charm came as a light comic releif type character, for which Butterworth was eminently suited.

I can see that, but then again, who is to say that causing havok isn't in the Meddling monk's future as a regenerated villain, I mean he was marooned on Earth afterall, so would it not be a compelling scenario to have him want revenge? This to me would be even more of a story because he wasn't evil to begin with.. he was made into a villain by the Doctor, who probably forgot to set him free..

and here is the cool part about the meddling monk, he truly believes his self righteous time meddling is the right way, and so with that as a belief, anything the doctor does is hindering his righteous work, that to me seems more dangerous then actually doing it for power or greed..a sense of misguided piety or manifest destiny...

anyways, I am watching "the Keys to Marinus" now . I will update you guys after I see it, but thus far, I am half way into the 2nd episode, and man, what a fantastic story!!! :techman: that one is going to be a five thumbs up for sure!

I tried to watch the abominable snowmen, and evil of the Daleks with the 2nd doctor, and to my dismay, it was the ones erased by the BBC.. what a freaking shame!! those looked like awesome episodes, I am sooo angry..

what episodes were just stock footage, anyone know so I can be warned what not to search for?

Umm.. Not sure what you mean.

If you mean "What episodes are composed entirely of stock footage?" then, none of them.

If you mean "What episodes incorporate the usage of stock footage?" then heaps and heaps of them, but many of them are very good. The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Crusade,The War Games, Inferno, The Sea Devilsfor example are all very well regarded stories, but all of them employ the use of stock footage at various points (IIRC)..

SSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :borg:

For goodness sake, edit that next bit out quick.

I didn't really see anything wrong with that, but decided to anyways just to be on the safe side, thanks for the heads up..:techman:

what I mean is the film was destroyed so all that remains was stills from what they could get.. and the soundtrack..

I would rather watch the full video motion pictures, then still shots ran with sound..the story may be there, but i haven't yet reached that level of fan appreciation to sit through one of those..

at least not yet..

Ahh.. now I am with you. You'd rather not watch a telesnap reconstruction.

Here you go - Doctor Who missing episodes

Note that while The Invasion is listed there, the reconstruction of episodes 1 and 4 was done via animation (work contracted out by BBCi and therefore deemed 'official') rather than the use of telesnaps. It is quite a bit more watchable to the less hard core fan.

Also the reconstruction of episode 4 ofThe Tenth Planet you will most commonly find is the one the BBC made for its video release. Its of slightly better quality than many of the fan made ones as it does not suffer the same level of quality degredation due to many being nth generation copies of old video tapes. Combine that with the fact that there is only the one episode missing makes this one of the more bearable recons out there.

Outside of that, if you ever do decide to watch any of the full blown recons of lost episodes, I recommend the ones made by Loose Cannon as they are almost always superior..

You're talking about the reconstructions. I've seen just about all of them. Some are done better than others. If you're not really into the idea of watching them it would be best to stay away.
I've talked to a few people that found them difficult to get through.

You can find a list of the missing Doctor Who episodes here

Today I watched all of The Time Warrior and The Deadly Assassin for the first time; on DVD. Enjoyed both of them a lot. I am not too familiar with classic Who, coming in as I did with the Eccleston series. But I enjoyed a few YouTube clips of old school Who, so I picked up a few DVDs. I look forward to seeing more classic Dr Who! :)

Just saw the Keys to Marinus, excellent episode..except, susan got on my nerves after awhile..too much whining..

I also watched the 5th doctor serial, Enlightenment! that was an awesome story..though the end was a bit lackluster...

Enlightenment was fairly good, but it was the conclusion of an arc that began in Mawdryn Undead (the so called 'Black Guardian' trilogy). You should view it in context, although I agree it wasn't the best ending.

Keys.. is something of an odd one out. Many fans dislike it, but I am partial to it at times. It does have a real epic feel to it, and the way the quest for the keys is spread across whole different areas is practically a blueprint for The Key to Time quest that Tom Baker would later undertake (another story-arc that many fans like to hate). Oh and I agree with you on Susan - she always annoyed the crap out of me.

I've just watched the first two episodes of The Masque of Mandragora. Good stuff. Very off-hand intro to the "new" old console room.

Just watched Mindwarp, and just started Silver Nemesis.

I have always had a soft spot for Silver Nemesis.

I just watched ep 3 of "Masque of Mandragora." It's amazing how well it holds up, special effects and all. I love the cliffhanger--Hieronymous turns into a flashlight!

I'm finding that watching the old shows an ep at a time works much better--I lose track of some things "Who's Marco again?" but in general find them more enjoyable.

I'd make an exception for a "Web Planet" marathon, though.

I've seen "The Caves of Androzani" and while it's not without its cheesy, unconvincing moments (like that shoehorned in dragon monster and the main villain killing a rival by pushing him into a bad matte painting) it is a brilliant, brilliant story and not since "Children of Earth" have I seen a story steeped in so much banal evil and selfishness, and as with "The Parting of the Ways" just about everybody dies (squabbling over a resource that gets buried).

I've been watching classic episodes.

I still can't watch past 'Horns of Nimon' in the Tom Baker era because I get upset at the changes: The music, which I don't mind for the Fifth or the Sixth; John Nathan-Turner writing out K-9; the changes in clothes....etc...

Interestingly, I do like 'Meglos,' so I guess I can look past some of the changes...

I also watched the 4th season of the nuWho, and found out that RTD isn't as infallible as I thought he was. Some episodes that I found dull:

*The Fires of Pompeii
*Midnight

However, there is more good than bad:

*The Ood is one of my favorite Who races now.

*Martha Jones is just so drop-dead hot; she speaks German in the second to final episode!

*Sarah Jane returns, looking attractive as always.

*K-9 returns; looking lovable and cuddly as always. (I swear I want my own K-9; I'm reminded of everyone telling the Fourth Doctor 'good luck' in the Sunmakers, which I watched recently as well...and you hear K-9 among the voices: 'Good luck, Masta'...)

Ahhhhh!

Lovable!

Anywho, I'm eager to watch the Matt Smith episodes, but it looks like I may not see them until they hit DVD...along with the Christmas special 'End of Time.'

The closest I have got to his episodes are the scenes from the PC games posted on Youtube...

Did you really have to review the best story ever with reference to complete rubbish?
