STO Enterprise F

This may have already been answered. I've looked so I apologize if it has. But what is the purpose of the gap between the "saucer section" and the deflector dish on the new ship. Is it just style? Why not just keep it filled in?

Artistic mostly. The design as it was further developed by the original artist that won the contest evolved it into a "warp ring" that separated with the saucer. STO ignored most of his input though, so ingame it doesn't do anything. You could chalk it up to improved "warp dynamics".

i'll admit to kinda liking it... it looked a bit odd at first, but it's definitely grown on me and fits in well :)

In game, its argued the split neck allows you maintain Slipstream velocities for longer, and it does. Gives you around a minute in slipstream vs 30 seconds in other ships.

I assume the slipstream is important to the game? I just started playing it myself

You get it at higher levels. It lets you cross through sectors more quickly. It's basically a turbo button.

is there a picture of this with it seperated? I assume this would be so both sections could warp?

I would have thought that it was implied.

Anyway, if you want to get technical...

"Otherwise, I THINK it's an absolute statement, and ugliness, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder."

Technically, we should be using "I think" in every sentence. Of course, that's just silly. So let's dispense with over-zealous nitpicking and discuss the topic at hand, okay?

I think it looks great. It's especially neat if you go with the warp ring idea; alas, the artist didn't come up with the idea until after he'd already submitted the design to the contest.

...and lets get back to discussing the oddity that is the F's neck

The flattened streamlined shape of the vessel and the neck are designed to minimize turbulence while in slipstream allowing for longer length flights.

Now what might really bake your noodle is how she's already got an advanced variant coming. The C-Store version will be mostly identical in appearance as far as I know, but it's secondary hull shuttlebay is removed in favor of it's own Defiant sized escort vessel, with similar scale armaments.

Not sure how much different it'll be overall.
