"Stitch In Time" question (possible spoilers)

I'm wondering why the Federation doesn't appear to be helping rebuild Cardassia. Why isn't there isn't there there a 24th Marshall Plan to assist the rebuilding. I know that Cardassia was the enemy in the war but leaving a beaten and angry people to their own devices is just asking for trouble.

The decision wasn't without its opponents. From memory, "Articles of the Federation" went into that a smidgen.

"Worlds of ST: DS9 volume one" goes into detail about the early stages of rebuilding.

I just finished reading "A Stitch in Time" and I have a question myself. Who set up Garak when he got caught checking out Palandine for the last time in the park? Garak says Lokar had a contact in the Obsidian order, and I'm guessing it was actually Tain in this instance, but I'm not sure. Anyone know?

I'm of the opinion that the events of the Cardassian Reconstruction/Revolution w/ assistance from the Federation will one day lead to Cardassia joining the Federation as at first a mutual ally (ala The Klingon Empire) and eventually a fully-fledged member world.

Of course I also tend to hope that one day we'll get a series set in either the 26th, 29th, or 31st century dealing with the various iterations of the Federation we've either seen or that have just been alluded to.

Also could be a great way to bring in the DTI again.

In order to secure a Cardassian task force for the Azure Nebula fleet, the Federation gave three class-M planets on the border to the Cardassians. I don't recollect how the inhabitants of those planets felt about that deal, however.

^That's something I wished they'd do for years. Multiple ships, multiple crews working in concert as an actual exploratory fleet... Then the Voyager series took that direction.

Here's hoping KB gets to use the ships working together for mutual support instead of singletons and solo missions.

I think they were later described as lightly-populated Class-M farming worlds. Problem is, aren't Class-M planets kinda at a premium right now, post-Destiny?

Well, as far as I can recall, the Cardassians lost their ships at the Azure Nebula when the Borg basically obliterated everybody there minus a few exceptions. In the novels, there is no mention of what has happened to Cardassian worlds. I find that incredibly ironic, actually, and very symmetrical in the spectrum of events in Trek literature and television. Sure, the Dominion was bent on destroying the Federation, yet the Cardassians pay the price. Now, the Cardassians join the Federation to stop the Borg (albeit the number's few in comparison), but it's the Federation and its allies that pay the price. As General Martok would say, "it'd be poetic justice". However, with the rise of the Typhon Pact, President Bacco was looking to extend the signatories of the Khitomer Accord nations, and wanted to include Cardassia as a part of that expansion.

At least, it's how I remember it. Someone can correct me if I'm off.
