Steve McNair, killed

Reports are that while police have not yet ruled out a murder-suicide, they are not currently pursuing that line of investigation.

Thank goodness. It would have been awful if he had pulled a Chris Benoit.

Really shitty news. Right in the beginning of what was sure to be a beautiful retirement with well-earned riches.

Well, shit. It looks like it was a murder-suicide, but of the Phil Hartman, rather than the Chris Benoit, variety:

McNair, the hometown hero who did extensive charity work in Nashville, died of several gunshots and was found on the sofa, police said. Sahel Kazemi, 20, was found alongside him in a Second Avenue condo he rented. She had a single gunshot wound to her head; a pistol was found near her body.

Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said they were leaning toward certain scenarios based on the evidence, but they hadn’t ruled anything out. Still, they were not actively looking for suspects Saturday night.

Thats a bummer. The guy withstood everything the NFL could throw at him, and ends up going out like this.

He deserved better.

So, basically the police think his wife did him and his 20 year old mistress/"friend" in but they can't put that forth publicly yet? That's basically it when you cut to the chase? Girlfriend, you should have just sued his cheating ass for divorce and cleaned up. Now you'll be in prison the rest of your life for murder and it's your own fault. Not worth it to lower yourself like that.

^^^^ the above as far as i can tell isnt even being looked at.
either steve was trying to break up with the girl and she shot him or the former boyfriend of the girl did it and tried to make it look like murder suicide,.

whatever the circumstances so far it dosnt change all the good he has done for multiple communities.

just this summer he was involved in several charity events including one for bookem books for kids on draft day.

he is going to be missed a lot by a lot of people around here.

I'm sure he is, but it's all going to get pretty sordid before the story's done being reported on unfortunately. Too bad he couldn't stay away from this chick. Whether it was his wife, the bimbo girl herself, or her boyfriend who did them both, ultimately this chickadee got him killed. This piece on the side wasn't worth his life, but she cost him his life. Now he can't do any good for anybody. It's a terrible waste.

i am not going deep into all this at this time but steve and his wife might have been having issues for the last two years.. before this girl entered into it.

the thing is his legacy both on the field and also off the field in the form of all his community work still is there.

unless one lived in nashville it is hard to judge the impact of all this.
one of my memories of steve is how he would have the kids come up first to get autographs and meet him.

he was one of the most accessible athletes.
if he was hosting a charity event he often would just sit were fans could come by and just talk to him.
no posse no obvious body guards.

one of the favorite stories was of some poor stranded motorist who is helped by mcnair.

this is just so crazy..
he was supposed to be doing charity work for years to come and hangin
out at his restaurant..

Steve McNair never really planned on owning a restaurant after his professional football career, even though he’s known within his family as a pretty good cook.

But he’s got one open now — called Steve McNair’s Gridiron9 — on Jefferson Street near Tennessee State University. McNair said his place is at that location for a reason.

“I always wanted to retire and teach kids about life, and I’m still doing that with my camps,’’ McNair said. “This is something that I can still give back to the community. A lot of college students don’t have the funds to go to (upscale) restaurants, but we can still offer them good food, healthy food they can afford.’’

The restaurant has a bit of a college, come-as-you-are type feel to it, not big, but relaxed.

“We want to know (customers), their name, what they eat and drink,’’ McNair said. “If I’m in town, I’ll be here every day.’’

My response from another thread:

":( :( :(

This seriously, seriously sucks. Steve was the first quarterback that I thought of as "my" quarterback. When the Oilers moved to Tennessee and became the Titans I was in middle/high school. I latched onto them, and Steve especially, as the epitome of physicality and toughness that NFL players should exhibit. So many great memories of him QBing the Titans, but even more than that the good he did, both for the Nashville area and especially for black QBs.

RIP Steve "Air" McNair. "

However this story turns out, however hurtful it's going to be - and imagine the hell his kids and (most likely) his wife will be going through if the most likely scenario plays out - he should be remembered for the good he did off the field and the warrior's heart on the field.

And this young woman should be remembered too and not just ignored or demonized, however the deed turns out to have been done.

If the young woman turns out to be the one who killed him I'd say she deserves to be demonized plenty. Talk about a real life example of Fatal Attraction. What a waste. He pretty much died for nothing if it was her who did it. Getting murdered by your piece of ass on the side is a pretty useless way to die. What a selfish piece of work she must have been, too. She'll be remembered, all right. My daughter was the bimbo who murdered Steve McNair.......not exactly a scenario to give a grieving parent comfort.

I was shocked to see this. He never seemed the 'thug' type off the field where you could see this sort of thing happening.

I always admired his tenacity. There were seasons where you needed dental records to identify him by December yet his teams were always in contention come playoff time.

Definitely something shady with this 'friend' whose relationship no one will talk about.

You kind of missed the entire point of the news story I quoted. The police are not pursuing any suspects, and are of the belief that McNair's mistress murdered him, and then took her own life (hence my reference to Phil Hartman).
