Sternbach runabout concept

Very cool! I like the CG work you've done here, biotech, and Rick Sternbach, I really like this design. :)

Thanks guys, smoothing out the edges on the wings turned out to be more trouble than just making them again, so thats what I did, I will need to add the thrusters back again.

But it's looking quite nice. We all have gone through tossing out stuff and starting over, and it's usually better the second time. Or third time. Or more. :)

Lol, I know, took me about seven goes to get the basic hull shape right, and a lot more than that to make a nova class look right.

Quick question what are those on the bottom they look like the front of regular Danube class warp nacelle's

Since Rick only drew this sketch from one angle I had to fill in the rest using other shuttles details, the underside is mostly taken from the underside of the executive shuttle from STIV which used bits from the galaxy class and romulan warbird model kits.

The back is probably going to be most based on the shuttle from STV, with the big opening door for troop deployment.

That's what I figured they were.

Added the front RCS's back, and since I couldn't see any obvious headlights, I added some near there, as that seemed the most logical place for them.

As you can see I need to repair some poly's gone bad round where the wing joins the body, hopefully that will be possible.

And lastly from me before I give sleep another go tonight, here's a clickable thumnail for a 1440x900 image.

Yeah I know the guy isn't touching the floor, this was a five minute render, so I wasn't going to do another one because of him, just blame it on the variable gravity field near the nacelles.

I really love the head lights- nice little detail. But with the nutty bright blinding car head lamps we already have, 300 years in the future will probably have pin hole lights that are as bright as a thousand suns.

You should (do what you want), but in my opinion, resist the temptation to go nuts with adding too many exterior details. Just for example, like the grey stripe dealy on each side that apparently visually indicates where the plasma flow goes down to the nacelle (personally this just screams "shoot me here bad guys!")...

Seriously though, one of the problems that happened with Star Trek was the monumental amount of crap that designers started sticking on their ships in an effort to make them look more interesting. Especially on the Runabouts. The panelling detail was crazy for such a small vessel- there were so many lumps on it, you'd swear Starfleet contracted out the Empire to put it together. This is the future, they wouldn't need so many little panels- I mean we presently have HUGE boats that are essentially moulded out with super clean one piece hulls. The original shuttle looked like a clean 2 peice hull.

Just look at the various shuttles in ST:TMP- they looked newer, but were clean looking. And in the movies and TNG for that matter. They still looked okay without being too much...

There's nothing wrong with detail though!!! Just know when to hold back- this vessel is looking great so far- please do get me wrong- I'm more critisizing past Trek designs...

Very cool. Does the ladder extend from the side of the ship and then swing down to the ground?

Indeed it does.

And dont worry Pat, the amount of detail on the outside of this ship will only be whats in the original drawing, or on shuttles that already exhist in trek lore.

Hmm what rhymes with lore?

Door!
