Stepping into the TARDIS: Series 1

Re: 1 x 12 - Bad Wolf

A new question: It seems that the Doctor believes he caused whatever it was that brought the 100 years of hell to the Earth. But how? Did we see it in "Boom Town"? This I have to know!!!
He's referring to when they were there in "The Long Game". He just blew up the Jagrafess and left, which had the unfortunate consequences for the Earth we see here.

Re: 1 x 13 - The Parting of Ways

If it seems I'm not spending much time on a single episode, it's because I can see how they are all part of each other.

Anyhow... "Bad Wolf" ... that whole thread is connected to Rose isn't it, in some deep way? (yeah, yeah... I know YOU know what's going on, so stop your snickering

Ah ha..... so Rose herself IS "BAD WOLF".!!! Shoot me for forgetting, but why that name - "Bad Wolf" ?

Well, you see, this is not the end of Bad Wolf. In fact, that term will come back to haunt the Doctor even years down the road. And another big bad wolf is coming up very quickly. It's part of the foundings of ... well, you'll see. And we are very amused by it.

No idea, as of yet it hasn't been explained to us. There are two possible reasons for this.
1: Their isn't one and RTD was making it up as he went along without paying it much thought.
2: It'll be explained in the specials after series four.

Re: 1 x 13 - The Parting of Ways

Surely everything you ever needed was explained in "The Parting of the Ways"?

Simply because it's the name of the corporation running the Game Station.

She scatters those words throughout time and space, as a message to her past self - there's a link between her (stuck on Earth in 2006, with "Bad Wolf" scrawled across the ground) and the Doctor (stuck on the Game Station in 200100, with "Bad Wolf" written on the walls).

In 2006, she spots that link, realises that it's a message telling her she can get back, looks into the TARDIS, becomes Goddess!Rose, returns to the Game Station, and scatters those words through time and space... and the cycle repeats. :)

(If she'd scattered the words "Purple Monkey Dishwasher", the message wouldn't've worked, because those words don't appear on the Game Station. Equally, if the Game Station was owned by BBC One, she would've scattered those words.)

Plus, it just sounds cool. :D

(And, as OmahaStar says, you haven't seen the last of those words - but when they come back, theyre not a message, but a warning...)

Re: 1 x 13 - The Parting of Ways

I always understood it as Super!Rose scattering the name Bad Wolf from the station throughout time to let herself know that she needs to go back there. Which involved looking into the heart of the TARDIS and becoming Super!Rose.

So "Bad Wolf" is ultimately just a name used as a trail of breadcrumbs.

EDIT: Too slow, I was!

:D

Yeah, I did. I simply was so excited when I first made the connection between Rose and Bad Wolf, that I posted immediately before the rest of the episode had played out.

It's a good thing that the "Bad Wolf" thread isn't completely finished, yet. As much build up as there was for it, this seemed a good but somewhat less of an ending than I was expecting. Don't get me wrong... it was more than cool, but I was expecting ... something a bit "splashier".

I liked the way that they showed you the regeneration, bringing in David Tennant and saying good byte to Christopher Eccleston.

And my oldest, who is home from college for Christmas break, agrees with me that Billie Piper is... "seriously cute".

Yeah, quite a few of us thought the same thing when it was first broadcast! The resolution didn't quite live up to the buildup. I was expecting something....just....more.

I can't explain it any better.

:D

Actually, next time they come back, they're a place.

Barcelona!

Remember to watch the Children in Need special before The Christmas Invasion.

actually, the next time they come back they're spoken in reference to a character, IIRC. in 2x02

correction: the phrase is next used as a name in 2x10. the 2x02 reference is a paraphrase.

Re: 1 x 13 - The Parting of Ways

I plan to start Seriees 2 this evening, but before I do I have a question. Do the various seasons (up to four now, right?) have an overall theme to them in any way? Maybe not necessarily something arc-intensive, but is there some type of thematic element that distinguishes one series from another?

Kinda, they all have an "arc word" and you learn to spot them, apart from series 4 which has various elements to spot.

Re: 1 x 13 - The Parting of Ways

Coolness! That's nice to know going in. Gives me some focus and something to have fun with.

For David Tennant's run, the theme can best be summed up as "HYUUUUUMANNNNNSSS!
