So 14 years is now the interval that has to pass before Hollywood decides to remake a perfectly serviceable and well regarded hit movie with a cult following? Sigh.
I think The Crow was a great movie and it's unsurprising that Alex Proyas has gone on to even greater commercial success (even if that remains my favourite of his movies). Then you have to add in the poignancy of the performance by the late Brandon Lee. Son of a cult movie legend who died in mysterious circumstances, he was playing a slain rock star on the verge of stardom who returns from the grave to avenge himself and his fiancee. Lee and his fiance were to be married after this, the movie that should have pushed him into stardom.
Okay, so James O'Barr invented the character, not Brandon, so there have been sequels (in both movie and comic form) and a spin-off show with Marc Dacascos as Eric. But really - do we need this sequel? Can't they just leave the character alone for a little longer, out of respect, both to the star and the original movie?
I liked Norrington's directing on Blade and I'm glad he's come out of retirement. I just wish it was to make a new Blade movie, not a new version of The Crow ...
