I watched it yesterday along with the previous episode that I missed - "Divided We Stand" and enjoyed them both. I guess I finally learned to ignore Vic's impression of "Shatner-as-Kirk" but I do laugh sometimes when he's walking around as if he's constipated.

Going to wave the big BS flag on this totally unproductive comment.

Nothing new there, the swagger is a choice and very Shatner-esque.

he is easily the 2nd best Kirk, of all the Kirks, and certainly the best prime timeline recast.
Well, I only count fan productions in this case, because in the professional, official productions Shatner is obviously the best (as the original), and I prefer Chris Pine's young Kirk as the second best Kirk. Of the fan productions, though, Vic's Kirk is the best, again in my opinion.

I couldn't help but notice that throughout the whole episode we never learn what Usdi's species calls itself.

The simple fact that neither Usdi nor his father expressed any shock or surprise at encountering other intelligent life pretty much cements the idea they are already quite aware of other intelligence in the galaxy besides themselves.

I guess as fast-moving cosmozoa they would get around! :)

I would have liked an added subplot of the crew trying to communicate with it further, and having to look for its home in the comet cloud, before getting fired upon by its father on their approach, introducing the energy waves a bit longer into the episode. It could have filled the episode out a little better, time wise.

The episode did feel to go by quickly.

I still don't really get why the waves sent out by Usdi's dad would cause everyone to succumb to overwhelming anger and suspicion. It sounds like an extension of what happened in TNG's "Sarek" where he was projecting his pent up emotions telepathically which affected those around him.

I didn't buy that explanation then either.

I've seen more then few of your type scuttling across the board looking for threads to bellow your nerd rage into over the past 17-18 years.
According to your sidebar information, you joined this forum in 2007. 2007 + 18 = 2025.

Interesting math, unless you're posting from the future... in which case you've just violated the Temporal Prime Directive.

My own impression is that this isn't bad; it's not the worst either (I really didn't care for the Civil War episode, but maybe that's because I'm not American and that historical event doesn't mean much to me in RL).

Some of the actors mumbled their lines, so I'm not sure if it was ever explained what Usdi did that made his father so angry.

Usdi might not have done anything specific. Those with anger management issues don't need much to set them off.

Unfortunately, usdi and the father were portrayed in a one-dimensional manner...

I've seen it twice and I'm struggling to get it either, something which should've been figured out during the writing stages of the script.

There definitely seemed to be something telepathic going on, with all of the infected taking out their anger against "that little brat" who is so disrespectful.... like the whole crew was channeling the father directly..
