In Divided We Stand they have no such certainty. They weren't risking changing the outcome of the Civil War. Kirk chose to sacrifice not knowing if it mattered because he decided that was the best way to live his life; committing to the world he was presented in accordance with his morals.
Anyway, that's the way I see it.
I didn't get it.

off topic I wonder if either C or NV ever thought about doing COTEOF as written by Harlan ( too much fan service?)
I think the cast available from STC and P2/NV producing their own City* would only make the 1966 version look, and appear far far far better than what it was.

There is a snippet of dialogue in "Divided We Stand" where McCoy questions where they might be. And then there is no followup. Based on past experience alone Kirk should have grasped they couldn't actually be in the past so no matter what they did mattered because they weren't going to affect real history. Reasoning this out would have made the charcters look smarter as they tried to figure a way out.

They should have followed their first impulse to try and get away.

Not onky does this episode feel like another TNG era holodeck story it also felt rather like a Time Tunnel story.

Divided We Stand feels like a story written around the gimmick of being able to use a civil war reenactment group to get expensive-looking shots of a sort that have never been done in a fan-film before. It was spectacle above story.

I had a friend of mine in film school who belonged to a revolutionary war reenactment group and he wound up shooting one of his films (a silent-esque comedy) with him starring as a deserting red-coat for similar reasons.

That's not at all how or why it happened. The story idea was around long before the idea of using the reenactors.

That reminds me, I remember hearing Vic say he liked the time-travel stories and had thought of the Civil War as an era of history that hadn't been done before. The reenactors were kind of serendipitous, then.
And you can listen to it while looking at the recent IDW comic adaptation of Ellison's script, which has excellent artwork.

All right! Now it's a Peter Pan Book 'n' Record!

I'm sure those productions were vetted by Ellison and he was probably paid some very large fees. He's notoriously protective of his work. I don't think a fan film could even touch the original story, even if they wanted to.

Nice tech you made for EP6. At least I assume you made it.

BTW all Indiegogo donors have access to EP6 now (We'd like to extend an extra-special "thank you" by sharing the full version of Episode 6: "Come Not Between the Dragons" with all our Indiegogo donors... right now!)

I have just finished watching it. I won’t give away any spoilers right now until everyone has had a chance to see it. However, what I will say is that this is by far the most funny and yet the most profound STC episode so far. Without question I rate this episode as Excellent 5/5. This is Star Trek at its very best.

That's what I am saying all the time! Great fun, but not just a silly over the top episode. The mood changes in the middle and hits you with feelings.

Just finished watching. I won't say more until it's out for general consumption; I enjoyed it, but it's a bit of a slight episode. I was hoping STC might finally have their own "Tressaurian Intersection," but this definitely isn't it. However, it's very well-made, and very in keeping with the classic series vibe.

I liked it quite a bit. Definitely a recovery from the most recent two episodes, but IMHO not as good as "Lolani" and "Fairest".

Also, at least on my TV the lighting seemed pretty off. Rather dark.
