News Stay At Home With ULTRAMAN| Ultra Science Fiction Hour on YouTube

I gotta say, I think Sorato would get along well with Shouma LOL

I see what you mean. Both strangers in a strange land who develop a fascination for Earth food.

I'm getting tired of how dense the show is making Ayumu when it comes to her unquestioning acceptance of Sorato. She doesn't wonder how he knows so much about kaiju, she buys the flimsy stories he and Kosei fabricate right in front of her, etc. And here, she failed to be observant enough to notice Omega giving hand signals to Kosei. Even Lois Lane at her worst was more perceptive than this. Well, at least there's precedent for allies being brought in on the secret at or before midseason, like in Geed, R/B, and Trigger. Hopefully that's the plan here.

By the way, it's a good thing I like the end title song, since I haven't been skipping the end credits, so I noticed that they include a couple of deleted scenes in the mix of clips every now and then.

Do you guys know where I can stream Shin Ultraman in Canada?

The Internet suggests Apple TV or Crunchyroll, but those lists aren't always current.

"Caught a Cold" didn't quite come together for me. How are we supposed to believe that Kosei's connection to Omega and his helper kaiju is still a secret when there's livestreaming video of him grabbing the "UFO" that then glowed and turned into a mini-kaiju? What exactly happened in between the thing starting to glow when he was surrounded by the crowd and the moment where he was riding on its back? How come the crowd seemed to forget all about it afterward? That's very sloppy writing.

Also, it's weird how the modern shows have gone back to portraying Gomora as a villain to be destroyed mercilessly after he spent several years treated as a heroic kaiju in Mega Monster Battle and Ultraman X. I mean, he wasn't evil here; he was just rudely awakened from hibernation by Trigaron's arrival and was understandably in search of food. Really, Gomora was the victim here, so I would've preferred it if Omega and Kosei had found a less lethal way to resolve the matter.

Gomora is the first legacy kaiju to appear in Omega, but we get another one next week, Mons-Ahgar from Dyna and Decker. No surprise, since this show has the same head director as Decker.

I wonder if garon means anything in particular, since in the past few seasons we've had Earth Garon and Trigaron. Leo had a couple of unrelated kaiju named Garon and Black Garon, but they were both one-shot monsters that bore no resemblance to either of these guys. Maybe they're derived from the Godzilla kaiju Megalon (which could also be spelled Megaron), though I don't see the connection there either.

A fairly fun episode. I enjoyed Sorato getting into the Ghost Riders' enthusiasm about their work. Although I'm getting tired of Kosei's exaggerated panic every time he realizes he's given something away, which should just make it obvious that he's hiding something yet always seems to mollify people.

So this universe has its own version of the Pacific Records, the ancient documents that have shown up in several New Generation series from this episode's writer Takao Nakano, primarily Ultraman Orb. The Ghost Riders reminded me a little of Orb's Something Search People, although they didn't have a leader as cool as Naomi.

We didn't get an answer to the mystery of the ghostly boy in the lost village, but that's clearly a setup for upcoming episodes. Next week is one of their clip specials for when the main show has a week off, which looks like it'll revolve around Tadashi Mizuno from Geed and Trigger, playing the guy who lives upstairs from Kosei.

What's the consensus on Shin Ultraman? The only series I've ever watched is the original, but I decided to buy the movie on a whim.

I thought it was excellent. It's a reimagining of the original series, albeit with new human characters, so you don't need familiarity with any other part of the franchise to follow it (although the kaiju that appear in the opening montage are from the preceding series Ultra Q). It's a strong, fast-paced story that makes some interesting choices. It's probably my favorite of Anno's three Shin movies (I guess Shin Godzilla is second and Shin Kamen Rider third, although it's close).
