Stay-at-Home Thread

We're supposed to have holidays for Good Friday and Patriot's Day (Massachusetts holiday commemorating Revolutionary War on which the marathon usually runs), and nobody at work seems quite sure if we're still taking them.

The prevailing attitude seems to be "What's the point when there's nothing else to do?"

Well, it's still a day when you don't have to work.

We get Good Friday off too, and I plan to enjoy the long weekend. Of course, my holidays are usually spent at home, so this is nothing new for me! :)

Some relatives are ill. Two corona cases among them

I'm sorry to hear that! I hope they make a full recovery!

Time for me to get some Santiago Cabrera as Rios posters for wall decoration in my apartment. Swoonig is great and can be done inside.

I can only highly recommend this, yes. Posters are very soothing. Also, maybe some cardboard cutouts. I love the two cardboard Jean-Lucs next to my bed. :D

This is my second telecommute day in a week. There's not much going on besides a couple of online meetings, including a virtual town hall by our finance director. At least I've been able to squeeze in a few exercise steps like squats and running in place.

Here's a thought: How bout nixing the Easter Egg Hunts this Sunday? After struggling to hunt down our nutritional essentials in every grocery store in the Western Hemisphere for the past month, maybe having kids play a cute game of finding hidden eggs rubs me about as well as having a 9/11 memorial that's just a couple stacked pallet bonfires ;)

I am going to stay home and watch Dawn of the Dead (2004) and World War Z to make myself feel better.
At least the real life situation outside is not as bad as those portrayed in those zombie movies.

Area 52 (local Tasmanian store) just hand delivered the jigsaw puzzles I ordered this morning. I am not sure which one to start tomorrow afternoon. The Leonardo’s Vitruvian Man is 500 pieces, the cute cat is 1000 pieces.

Where I live pretty much everything as far as food items is available. The first week they closed everything there were no eggs and not as much canned fruit or canned beans. But those items were still available just not a jam packed store shelf full of them. Now, everything seems to be available.
People were selfish piggies I think at first. I think a lot of people grabbed way more stuff than they needed.

Here in parts of NY, it can still be a challenge to find meat, rice, bread etc... Not impossible, but challenging

They should probably be cancelling any public Easter egg hunts, because that would be a social distancing nightmare. But if we're talking about hunts that parents do at their own home for their own family, they really should continue. In the middle of everything that's going on in the world right now, kids could probably use some semblance of normalcy, and a connection to a happy family tradition.

That's too bad then.
Meat, bread, eggs, I haven't looked for rice because I have two bags in my cabinet.
Everything is here pretty much. Food wise.
Lots of fresh fruit and veggies too.
There are some empty shelves, but like if you're okay with a store brand item or sometimes an expensive organic item, seemed like everything is there.
Maybe we're just luck where I live.
We have a smaller population than a lot of places though.

This pandemic has uncovered a previously hidden talent in me. It turns out that I am a world class couch potato. I mean hall of fame caliber. In my life antecoronavirus, if I ever lost an hour's sleep, it has been recovered with interest. I have perfected the butt print in my recliner and I now have a PhD. in remote control operation. I am working on another doctorate in paint by numbers with a minor in jigsaw puzzles. Who knew?!

I've been getting lucky with off brands in less common shopping places than I usually frequent, & I've also resigned myself to getting the more organic meats & stuff, because they are all that's left, but yes they are more expensive. Thankfully, fruits & veggies are doing ok around here

It doesn't help that I'm kind of boxed in with when I can shop now. The limiting of store hours really hit me, because I use to go before sun up, when no one was around. Being one of the few still working, when I get out each day, I have to get cleaned up, have dinner, & I'm heading out on shopping day, in the evening hours, when lots of things are picked over, I'm guessing. I'm actually running close to closing time when I get finished.

I'm managing ok, but I'm doubling the amount of time & places I have to shop, (Which I'm trying to do only once a week now) in order to find everything, & I'm spending a bit more in total, but it's not a true hardship. Just more of a challenge. Hence why I compared it to a hunt lol. There's a lot more effort to it

Holy crap, I'm tired. Hubby is working in his home office today but I spent the day doing chores---I took everything out of the pantry, wiped down all the shelves, threw out all the food and spices that are now old enough to be in a museum (ick), rearranged some of the drawers in the kitchen, then put everything BACK into the pantry, vacuumed and mopped the entire first floor. THEN, made a quick drive to the grocery store for cat litter and some pills for hubby, and drove the long way home so I could give my old car some "exercise." It had been sitting for weeks and I wanted to give the battery and engine a little run.

And I decided to drive up to Jimmy John's to get my favorite sandwich at the drive-thru. He thanked me for coming to the shop and I thanked him for being open. I didn't really need to go out for a turkey sandwich since I have all this food at home but I wanted to get out of the house.

I've always taken Easter Monday off, so after my morning errands, I'm just taking it easy at home.

The whole family is here today, some of whom are visiting, and we're celebrating one of my sisters' birthday. This time of day is usually my down time, so I don't feel like socializing much. To be honest, I've mastered the art of self-isolation and social distancing long before the pandemic.

I am doing the Vitruvian Man puzzle. It is not an easy one to do.

I had to go out today to post a parcel to a friend. She is not on the internet and she asked me to order something off the internet for her birthday. I wanted to have it go directly to her home but she wanted it to be posted to me because I am nearly always at home and she is not. She said she would collect it after ‘all this is over’. After it arrived she decided she could not wait so I had to walk to the post office and back (a total of 4 km). I am annoyed that I had to break my self isolation for this.

that's indeed rather inconsiderate of your friend.
That puzzle looks really mean! I'm not sure I'd have the nerve for it.
Easter Monday is a public holiday in Germany. I spent it repairing my sewing machine :)

This is my second week home telecommuting. I'd been holding out on working from home because I don't have a very good workspace where I can set up monitors and I don't have a comfortable desk chair. My boss had been letting me slide because of this, and also due to the fact that there were only a couple of other people in the building, who actually spent most of their time in our adjoining lab. But then she and the other managers got pressure from upstairs to make sure all non-essential people are working from home, so here I am.

I can't say this has been all that enjoyable. There are so many distractions here like the pets and just "stuff." My wife, who is a teacher has been very nice about not adding to the distraction and doing her work in the bedroom.

We live in an apartment complex and up until all this started, we all got our larger packages delivered to the front office. But now that the office is closed, the USPS and UPS are supposed to deliver packages to apartments. But they aren't. I've got a package they keep "trying" to deliver, but each day I get a notice that they could not access delivery area. I'm getting no help from USPS customer service at all.

Sorry for the whining. I know there are a lot of folks out there hurting far worse. I am lucky to have a job that won't get furloughed. But I just needed to get it all off my chest. Hope all of you are doing well out there. Stay safe...

That looks tough. Not much to go on...
My aunt gave me this at Christmas. Might resort to it if I get desperate, but I'll need to re-arrange my furniture in order to do it.
