Stay-at-Home Thread

The Prime Minister and his cronies in England are fucking incompetent
England is nowhere near ready to be relaxing lockdown measures

The Prime Minister has already had Corona, so he thinks he needn't worry. People have a tendency to judge everything by their own experiences and standards. That's only human but a politician should take greater care than others since his decisions affect millions of people.
A lot depends on how people behave. Here in Bavaria the lockdown got widels lifted. While in my parents' district people stick to the distance and mask rules, in my district they don't. The result is that at my parents' there are about 4 new infections per week while in my district there are 4-7 every day. And no, it has nothing to do with population numbers: my parent's district has even slightly more than mine.

What I'm aiming at is: regardless of what politicians decide, it's still up to everyone to protect not only themselves but each other. Whether lifting the lockdown is successful depends on how egocentric or altruistic and how disciplined the population as a whole is.

Just wondering what things are like where you live now? For us right now we are still mostly locked down. Home Bound. We can go in stores, get take out from eating places, and visit people thru windows and doors. I can't see my mom for real until July 30th! She lives in an old folks home. Most things are closed like the library, church, other stores besides grocery, hair places and so on. I am just wondering how things are where you live?

Everything's opened back up. People are not wearing masks, but are largely engaging in proper social distancing. It's still a surreal mess.

Since the topic of this thread seems to be around the lockdowns and other pandemic measures, I don't really think it needs to exist in its own thread. I'm going to merge it into one of the already existing threads.

Many businesses will reopen in the SF Bay Area, like outdoor dining for restaurants, curbside pickup for retailers, etc. In other parts, some restaurants offer limited-capacity indoor dining with enforced social distancing. It will be a while before movie theaters, hair and nail salons, and shopping malls are allowed to reopen.

We are on a moderate lockdown. Shops and museums are reopened for a limited number of customers at a time. School starts for all classes again next week, after the Whitsun vacations. Every child gets their own table and these are spaced wide apart to keep a 1.5 meter distance. Outside of class the pupils must wear masks and they must desinfect their hands frequently.
Dancing schools and fitness studios opened this week but you have to keep distance there as well: no physical contact unless with your own partner. Restaurants and beer gardens have been open for a week now but there is not much demand yet. Everywhere the distance rule applies: 1.5 m minimum between persons not belonging to the same family. That means restaurants have to place tables further apart than usual and queues in shops are longer.
Public baths are going to open next week but only with a limited number of customers and with keeping the minimum distance.
Except while eating, drinking or swimming you have to wear a mask at all times in shops, restaurans, baths etc. The staff must wear a mask all the time.
There are even concerts, only there must be enough space between the visitors and of course you have to wear a mask.

Choires are not yet allowed: the risk of the singers spreading droplets onto each other is too high.

My town put up a ferris wheel and a merry-go-round in the market place. Only members of one family may ride in the same compartment and after each ride everything gets desinfected.
I read the other day that one town in Germany has started a drive in art gallery in a park deck. Nice try but because of the exhaust fumes it's not exactly environmentally friendly.
Corona has its advantages: people use their imagination and come up with unusual ideas.

Plus: my mom finally overcame her fear of computers and now sends emails! =):bolian:

It just been announced that there are no active cases of coronavirus in Tasmania and no close contacts of recent infections remain in quarantine. The plan to go to level three restrictions (the lowest level) in mid-July will be bought forward to June 26. Our border will probably remain closed until the at least the end of July.

I am now more confident about going out in public and plan to catch a bus on Monday. Buses have been free here since the start of the restrictions and I gather passengers have to enter and exit by the back door so that there is no contact with the driver. I have not seen any of my friends since my birthday in February and we have two birthday celebrations to catch up on but we leave it until we enter level three to get together.

edited to add - the last death in Australia from covid-19 was on May 23. We have had 102 deaths.

This chart shows an outline of the easing of restrictions In Tasmania

congratulations! But don't get too careless: China reports the start of a new corona wave, I heard on the radio this morning.

I think it's not just the masks but keeping distance. The masks are useful as a reminder to not get too careless.

My sister and I both have cloth with pretty or funny motives and we swap masks with designs we like. I got a lovely llama mask on friday in exchange for a mask with dragons and castles. And many people who sew their own masks have started to make them fit their clothing. There's a sort of challenge going on who has the prettiest or coolest mask.

What is a "public Bath"
I know English is not your first language, but public bath is giving me crazy thoughts!

It looks like covid is over, for a couple of weeks out town is overflowed with Germans who are shopping and visit our markets here and ignore every advise to keep distance.

Some people obviously refuse to stay at home despite a probable infection. More than 1000 infected workers in a meat production company.

Göttingen, apartment tower. People refuse to stay in their forced quarantine and throw things at the police or shoot with guns. Where did the people get the weapons by the way?

I think I have to start trying to transition my lifestyle back to pre-quarantine. Since the start I've gained 7 points with probably twice the drinking and half the exercise, and have started to get exhausted even after short walks.

Starting to set my alarm at 7 again, going out (With mask and distancing and following all the rules), prepare for a race even if there is no race. This is worse for my health than if I did get COVID.
