Stay-at-Home Thread

That must be utterly frustrating! I find it bad enough as a customer, but there I have to endure it only for half an hour. Having to deal with Covidiots (love that word) all day would imho entitle you to get the Purple Heart.

I've been dreading every visit to the shops
There is virtually no social distancing
People basically do not give a shit
I am looking after someone who is shielding with health issues
If I get the virus when I'm out, it doesn't bear thinking about.

Staying at home does have a certain appeal at times considering that I am still working given that I work in a Food Store. Having to deal with the idiots who can't seem to grasp the concept of social distancing.

It's funny, those one-way aisles inside the stores like WalMart. Have they ever seen how most of their customers drive down the one-way aisles in the parking lots? Half of them have no idea what an arrow means.

I had to shop yesterday using one of those silly electric cart shopping baskets. Believe you me, I turned that stupid thing whichever direction I needed to go to shop, arrow or no arrow.
Like you come down aisle 1 and grab some bread.
But the next aisle ,2, is chips and candy,
You pass that one.
Aisle 3, is next, it has baking goods, you need flour and dry milk,
So you are supposed to go Back to aisle 2,
Go down aisle 2 so that you can enter aisle
3, from the"correct" direction?
I get why people go the wrong direction.
Possibly they aren't health enough to do all that walking?

That's the great plan. I suppose you could back down the aisle, so you look like you went the right way :guffaw:

My store doesn't have one-way aisles. We know the customers would ignore them. Hell, I'm fairly sure WE would.

And how do you enforce something like that anyway? Post guards?

I definitely have a few words for people who drive the wrong way, but that's about it. Most stores I go to (WalMart, Jewel, various strip malls) have angled parking and theoretical one-way aisles.

One way aisles? I never heard of one
All our stores have used arrows (made from masking tape) to show a flow shoppers should use to avoid shoppers bumping into each other. Most people try to observe that in the shops at which I’ve shopped.

My store tried that when things really kicked off here--early March? It didn't last very long. It actually caused little "traffic jams" that put people in closer contact for longer, rather than just letting people move about freely.

I've been really happy with how my HEB is dealing with the virus protocols. Other stores, however, like the local hardware places, don't seem to give a rat's ass. The staff don't have masks on, or gloves, and the only thing they seem to be doing is counting how many people they let in at one time.

I haven't seen my 86-year old mother in months. If others aren't masking-up, I can't be sure I haven't been exposed.

Hope your mother is alright.

The new HEB opens next week.Looking forward it.

Mom is good, so far. She has one of my sisters and one of nieces to do things for her. Although my niece is fairly useless, and both of them are being supported by my mom, which pisses me off to no end. My Mom and I are good friends, so I miss spending time with her.

The grocery store I shop in has (theoretically) had one way aisles for well over a month.

Initially, it was just arrows marked on the floor with masking tape. They were ignored.

Then, they upgraded to fancier graphics, with large yellow arrows on the floor that said "One Way" inside them. Ignored.

Next, they put red and yellow caution tape with the word "exit" on it at the exit end, so people would see it if they tried to enter the wrong way. Again, ignored.

Finally, determining that the problem must be that no one is looking at the ground, they put up signs at eye level that said something along the lines of "ONE WAY AISLES -- Please follow directional arrows". STILL. IGNORED. :scream:

:sigh:

The one that got me was my drug store. I wanted to go up a particular aisle, and noticed the arrows were pointing out towards me. OK, so I go to the next aisle over to go to the other end... and the arrows were pointing towards me there too! I actually stood there for a few seconds thinking "wait, what?" Fortunately, the next one over from that finally went in the opposite direction. :)

one way isles are a good idea, particularly in shops with very narrow isles.
The one I shop in is very narrow and has lots of pillars supporting the ceiling which already block off many routes. They simply moved a few crates and a fridge to block some of the byways between the pillars and the shelves so that their whole shop is now automatically one way. It only gets complicated if someone realizes that they forgot something from a previous isle and turn back. But I found out that the corner with the freezers offers a very good escape route in such cases :D
It reminds me a bit of the puzzle with the ferry man who has to transport a goat, a wolf and a cabbage but can ferry only one at a time.
