i just did my income tex today my state i pays money! my fed i got money back! for you what is better for you people? and overall whitch 1 is better and more fair? thank for you time love drychlick;)

We don't have state income tax in Australia. Only our Federal government can collect income tax.

I generally get a return on my Federal taxes. Usually enough to pay the state. Fortunately all the amounts are fairly low, so I've got things pretty well balanced.

I'm not a fan of either. By my last estimate we made enough last year where we are going to taking it in the ass from the might Commonwealth of Massachusetts while Uncle Same gives me a facial.

I dislike them both. I am confident neither the state or the feds spend the money the way that I wish and that legislators feel free to spend money that is not their own.

My goal each year is to owe them a little and not get something back.

I guess I prefer federal, I usually get money back from them. For state taxes this year I owe nothing but get nothing back.

You mean which one do I hate the least?

My state does not have any income tax, so it's not really much of a question.

Of course, the state also has little to no services of any kind for its citizens as well.

I don't mind paying Federal taxes, since I usually get a pretty good refund every year.

question makes no sense, really. They take both out of your pay check, and then at the end of the year, you get chunks of both back. Unless you have a more complicated tax situation, or you have your W-4 adjusted so that you don't get enough withheld.

Federal is about 4x the size of my State tax, so i guess I hate that more? Then again, my Federal return is about 4x as big. Still way more money going to Federal, though, so if there was an option to avoid one... On the other hand, I work for the DoD, so people paying less to the Feds means they have less to pay me. Oh well...

This year, it's the Federal tax. They tax state unemployment. Sheesh.

I'm paying more this year than I did when I was making $60K.

The federal government pays my salary, so I don't mind giving them some back.

(Note: Some)

No state income taxes here in Texas. But they wring the money out of us in other ways, mainly ridiculous fees on just about everything.
