Sure, no argument there. It could have come out of any number of late-50s or early-60s-vintage books I read when I was little about What Things Are Going to Be Like When We Get to Space in a Few Years, or from any of dozens of Saturday-afternoon serials in the Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon vein in years previous.Still a pretty generic rocket ship design.
The stuff that's was uncovered is amazing, really makes me happy to know there are still secrets of Star Trek so many of us don't know inside and out. Particularly how Spock was cueing a bridge crewmember to change the screen image in The Cage, but the angle filmed makes it look like he's doing it himself simply by pointing.
Such a shame Roddenberry milked every inch of Trek for a profit by snapping up so man trims. It would be great to have Deleted Scenes Bonus features on the DVDs.
... so yeah, there's probably more than a few bits that were burned around forty years ago.
