The movie didn't make 380 million bucks on the legitimacy of red matter. It made 380 million bucks because it looked pretty. :P
So I guess a movie that looks pretty AND makes sense is way too much to ask.
This is America. You're asking too much.

Outside of the same 5-6 people who keep whining about it, the film was accepted and enjoyed by fan and non fan alike.
You can move the goalposts to accommodate your disagreements all you want, but the film was still a hit.

Eh, no more so than do the fans of any other particular Trek series or movie, when you get right down to it, and probably a good deal less than some. You might try backing off on the "ridicule the nuTrek apologist" angle and see whether you get different results. It's the "Pro-XI" crowd that whines whenever someone finds fault with "The Masterpiece".![]()

It takes two to tango, and I'm sure you'll agree that the condescending (even at times insulting) tone found in posts from some of the critical-of-XI "crowd" hasn't been doing a great deal toward elevating the civilized level of discussion in this thread. Why, were I to assert such a thing I would come across as just another juvenile crybaby, still affronted (some two years later) at having his favorite canon-based fantasies and daydreams snatched away from him with one fell reboot.
It seems the pro-XI crowd is still unable to have a civilized discussion about this film.![]()
