Starting with Polar Lights' kits

I am very tempted to get involved with building my own kits of the ships in the Polar Lights' line but I was wondering what kind of skill is required?

I am a total beginner and wouldn't even know which paints to get etc, am I best starting elsewhere?

Their 1/1000 kits are snap-together and pretty easy. I'd say they're good starting kits.
The 1/1400 and 1/537 kits (and the 1/1000 Excelsior & 1701-B) are really the old AMT kits from decades past (with some improvements) and are reasonably easy glue-together kits.
The big 1/350 kits are for experienced modelers.

Forbin is an expert. Over the years he has built a truly staggering array of Trek ship variations.

Forbin needs to get back to that! I've been neglecting Trek for a few years.

As for paints, I'd say use Tamiya spray cans for the overall color - white for movie-era ships (I like pearl white, in fact), and light ghost gray for the TOS E. For detail brush painting, whatever model paints you like or can find. I've always used Testors Model Master enamels, but they're out of production now, and I'm running out! I'll have to pick a replacement soon.
