Starting running- need some clothing advice

Crusher, the appropriate thing in Texas is to run WITHOUT clothes. You see, clothing provides minimal protection against the sun (SPF 4). If you wear clothing, you're actually rubbing off any sunscreen you've put underneath it. If you want to protect yourself, you must run nekkid with spf 30 all over you.

There is only one solution that meets your moral obligation to not create a burden on the health care system from your impending skin cancer: Nude, sun screen laden running.

Think about the children. :(

Well- it is Austin, after all....

You'd get all sorts of funny looks just for not having enough tats and body piercings in Austin.
Are you sure? How can we tell without pictures?

Eh, that's easily fixable.

On a related note, I went to a screening at the Austin Film Society. I opened up the door and it was packed with hipsters in black t-shirts and skinny jeans. I took one look at the group and said "And here I am without my black t-shirt."

:guffaw: I must've said it louder than I thought. Some of them turned and glared at me.

They were pissed you weren't nekkid. DUH:vulcan:

I went to my first training session yesterday afternoon. It was pretty disorganized. I accidently got in with the group training for a marathon.

But my coaches eventually fished me out and got me in with the beginners group. I really like those guys.

One of my biggest worries was hurting my knees and shins. He addresed the correct way to stride yesterday, and now I know how to protect my knees.

I am so glad I went with a professional coach. I would probably hurt myself out of ignorance if I didn't have guidance at the beginning.

^There are some ways to run that will reduce strain on the joints, particularly when it comes to hills. However, I've always found that if one has the proper shoes and they don't push themselves too hard in the early training, one shouldn't have to worry about injuries too much.

One woman in our group has one foot that underpronates. I heard him tell her last night that that could lead to shin splints. That was my other big concern.

We did our first timed run last night. We were supposed to do a mile, but the marker was obscured and we wound up doing one and a quarter before we turned back.
