Starship in the Cornfield (SPOILERS)

Re: Starship in the Cornfield (Spoilers - I think)

According to this film, something happens in the Picard era (or later) that requires Spock to travel back in time and set things right.

Nope. ;)

I'll say it again. Something in the Picard era (or later) happens that leads to Spock having to travel back in time.

We all know this is the case, so why do you disagree?

This is a "spoiler-filled" thread, so go ahead. Pleases explain. If you'd rather be "careful" with spoilers nonetheless (as I sort of was), feel free to PM me, but please don't just say "Nope" when we all know that's what happens.

My understanding is that Spock is neither required, nor does he choose to go back in time, so I think your wording is the issue.

Actually a FEW things happen in the post-"Reunification" era that shake things up a bit.

i think you'll find he said 'nope' because there's no reset button. Spock doesn't put right what once went wrong.

i think you'll find he said 'nope' because there's no reset button. Spock doesn't put right what once went wrong.

Plus, Spock doesn't "have to travel back in time".
Nero's and Spock's time travel is purely involuntary. Accidental.

Re: Starship in the Cornfield (Spoilers - I think)

i still think that nope is going to far..
in ..
spock does go back in time..
he evidently does take some actions to try and intervene in what is happening.
or are you into just giving gastrof a hard time.:)

Re: Starship in the Cornfield (Spoilers - I think)

He said the plot "requires Spock to travel back in time and set things right" and "we all know that's what happens", both of which are incorrect.

I replied "Nope" because it seemed the most appropriate answer without having to set up formal spoiler-warning answers.

Would you rather I said something like "Spock travels back in time and attempts to set things right"?

In private I've told you I want detailed info since you've seen the film, and that if you don't give it I'm going to go after your antennae with unpleasant sprays. :p

What I said was that Spock tries to get things as much back on track as he can, but that it's too late to fix everything.

As for their travel being NOT planned, I find that...

Fascinating.

This is getting better and better.

In direct response to the OP: there is a short, and I mean short, shot of the registry number on the side of the nacelle of the ship on the ground in Riverside, during the scene where the shuttles carrying the cadets take off. The camera pans to follow the shuttles and sweeps past the nacelle (and is nearly washed out be the sun). The registry is--ready for it:

NCC-1701.

So, yeah. It's the Enterprise.
