love this picture, glad he updated it to add the G and new Stargazer. I use the original for my desktop background. I do think it’s kinda funny he’s got the NX-01/NX-01 refit, the pilot, series and movie version of the original Enterprise but he skipped the Enterprise B.

We don’t know what it looked like. We only know that a vessel of this class was in service in 2363 (and possibly as early as 2327), with a registry of NCC-11574.

Ah ok, so it could be the same class, just a newer updated version or refit with new nacelles.

Wow, that's great!
Still has the mystery Galaxy-Nebula-class(?) hybrid?
The Universe-class Enterprise-J is gone but the USS Congo remains. Perhaps the implication is that the Enterprise-J underwent a refit that changed it from Universe class to Congo class?

The Apollo class was one of the TNG conjectural classes Okuda came up with. This ship can’t be the same class, despite what it says on the MSD. It’s supposed to be the Curiosity class per Michael Chabon.
He also said one of the ships that didn't make it into the Season finale was a Curiosity class, but none of the concepts looked like Rio's ship, so he may have made a mistake.

I'm just saying that it is rather telling that with everything he put up there, including 2, possibly 3, versions of the 1701, that he didn't bother to put up the Discoprise.

I guess we know Drexler won't be contributing to the SNW production.

He included the USS Discovery though (or at least a Crossfield class) and he dislikes that show, so I think you're reading too far into it.

Or they just took some computers from the old Apollo class, installed them in this ship, and called it a refit :D (I don’t think that was remotely the intent. They probably had no idea about the TNG Apollo class.)

Didn't they just retcon the Enterprise-J to look somewhat different?

Looks like they tried making it into a 26th century version of the 32nd century Angelou class.

To be fair the only canonical on-screen appearance of the Enterprise-J is this:

...Which makes its "established" look per the Ships of the Line and Eaglemoss etc also not really canon.
Yeah but those other depictions are based off that model.

Even Drexler doesn't like the Roddenberry Archive version and got upset over the alterations made.
That's a pity. When I first saw it I imagined it was his redesign as he had mentioned something about glass floors/ceiling and the ship being a flying city, the bridge would be completely holographic and they could choose any era.

The one in enterprise did not look like that.

The one in Enterprise looks like a blurry on-screen schematic.

I think given the amount of abilities he's given to the Enterprise-J elsewhere (internal cities, etc) I think he's just annoyed someone visualised it better than he did

Yeah exactly. I think it looks fantastic. Like a Federation GSV.

He did say he didn't mind the idea of the hull turning transparent (or the image being presented as a cut-away, I don't remember his exact wording and the post has been pulled as far as I can tell), but would've liked it presented in the context of being a special ability/illustration, not a retcon of the design. He didn't like the saucer being thickened up, but I think that's a reasonable adjustment to the excessively flat original, especially if you're doing to be seeing through it and need some sense of depth.

I know it’s almost been two decades, but I’d forgotten how much it looks like an image of the NX-01 squiggled about a bit at the last minute. (I mean, I understand the production pressures for the series.) Perhaps we can consider it a fancy MSDB rather how the Ent-J ‘really’ looks like?

(I like the concept of an enigmatic future Enterprise which is a self-contained space colony, FWIW. And I like that it has recognisable Enterprise lineage in its design.)
