Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

I hope folks realize that the Romulan BOP was NOT being commanded by Romulan's.

It was being used by a local Pirate (I'm hoping an Orion one) to control the quadrant, since there wasn't any official Romulan or Federation presence around anymore.

Seven's fighter reminded me of the Swarm Ships from Star Trek: Beyond.

Yeah I am aware, its just an odd choice of ship to use in the circumstances, I can appreciate why they took the opportunity to show it though.

Yeah Sevens fighter was cool but it was never going to be able to take hits from a vessel that much larger for long.

It would have added to the threat making it realistic for Picard to have to leave asap.

Plus it could have been in a state of disrepair with limited targeting and just generally being slow.
I've gotta say, the idea of seeing the little Sirena fly circles around a fairly immobile D'deridex is growing on me. It works in Star Wars, after all.

I just feel that its a bit unlikely having a whole system being controlled by a few pirates in an old Romulan BoP, whereas a beaten up impulse only D'Deridex with targeting issues would fit a lot better.

Surely another group would have moved in with something a bit better and splatted it by now, or perhaps there just isn't anything worthwhile in the system to bother.

Well beyond the pirate ship that was stealing from the scrapyard in Unification and the pirates from Gambit..was there any other civilian ships that realistically could match even an old Constitution class or BOP?

I would hope so due to the advances made since those classes had been launched.

I would fancy the La Sirena's chances which means I dont really feel any tension from the situation.

Its not a big deal though as it will serve the purpose well enough no doubt.

When one has the only starship in the quadrant and it's armed to the teeth with as much modern tech as a Pirate can buy/steal and install ...
I'd say it was more than adequate for the job.

Just saying - you can still do a reasonably decent job modernizing a 50-year-old design without throwing out the baby with the bathwater for no other reason than "just 'cause they can".

Don't get me wrong, I do actually like DISCO, but they've made some serious missteps (mostly because of Fuller) in art design for change for the sake of change.

I'd have preferred they thought through what they were putting on screen. But that horse has left the barn.
I think they did. Fans don't happen to be 100% on board.

I'd rather they'd feel some creative freedom with the product than hesitant to do anything new. As reticent to change as I am I welcome people trying new things. But, as I have stated, I am willing to experiment with comfort food, so what do I know? :nyah:

They went far beyond "anything new" and rewrote the entire visual language of the timeframe. Some change was to be expected, changing everything wasn't. Especially for a show that was supposed to take place in an established timeframe.

They even advertised it as "Ten years before Kirk and Spock...".

What's the point of going back to Deep Space Nine, if it is unrecognizable compared to the show you fell in love with?
