Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

So this was posted today. Guess it kinda answers the mystery of Shuttlebay 3.

What the hell is a flagship? And what are the requirements?
I don't know about Starfleet, but in the US Navy, flagships often had a separate flag bridge from which an Admiral would command a fleet. The flag bridge is separate from the regular bridge where the captain controls the ship. Commanding, coordinating, and communicating a group of spread-out ships requires extra equipment and personnel. But I think the most technical definition is just that it's whatever ship carries the Admiral's flag.

TNG seemed to use the term "flagship" in more of the business sense of a flagship product being the best, superior, etc. rather than the military sense.

Pride of the Fleet, would probably be the best old navy definition, the way Star Fleet uses it.

The dorsal view of the Titan-A is surprisingly attractive. But every other view just amplifies the impression that it looks like a Constitution refit someone squashed and took a bite out of. It's still an inexplicably ugly design to me.

One thing that caught my eye in Dave Blass's Twitter thread following this image though – the Titan-A does indeed have both 23rd century-style phaser turrets and 24th century-style phaser arrays. Apparently phaser turrets are better for close engagement of multiple targets simultaneously – or in other words, anti-fighter defence.

I think this ship captures all the things I like about the Constitution class, while having that 25th century aesthetic. It works well for me.
I will admit that the design is growing on me. I kinda hated it when I first saw it, especially the plethora of impulse engines. But seeing it throughout the series has really changed my opinion. Still a few issues here and there, but definitely a worthy "Hero Ship".

Not quite an ortho, Still some distortion in the images.( rear mainly) Still nice, Doug loves to think things through. Kind of the first "Elevator" shuttle bay in use??

I may have my gripes on why they didn't use the Luna, or that the Cgi could be better, but that doesn't take away that it is a nice looking ship, Bill and Doug done a great job.

What's weird is Lightwave (which I assume Doug is still using) has had orthographic cameras for years now, but people keep using the old trick of moving a perspective camera far away with a high zoom factor.
Thought they were using Maya.. Either/Or yeah, you can render out true Side, etc.
It does mess up if your trying to model off of perspective shots.. Nothing lines up at all.

I don't really see the 'elevators' in that ortho.

On the ortho shot, there right infront of the impulse engines, behind the bridge. There labeled, but I don't honestly see any "doors" there.

The VFX guys are, but Doug has been a Lightwaver since way back. If I had to bet, it would be that he did the approval model of the Elios in Lightwave, and he probably renders ship orthos in it too.

At any rate, software aside, the "pull back and zoom" trick is an old Lightwave one (as the program didn't have orthographic render cameras until the 2010s), so it's odd to see that still in use when every software package out there offers the option.

On the ortho shot, they’re right in front of the impulse engines, behind the bridge. They’re labeled, but I don't honestly see any "doors" there.

Oh, I see the labels. I just don’t see the doors they are pointing to. I feel like somebody is just trying to compensate for a script mistake. Not an accusation, mind you; just an observation.
