Starship design history in light of Discovery

Of course, it's still the same issue as with, say, the ship that blows up in "Legacy". Even if we know what the model looks like in studio reality, we really do not in Trek reality - not unless we want to.

I count my blessings, too. Although it seems DSC has a thing for blurry where previous Trek had none...

I like the salute to Herman Zimmerman. Now, all the ship needs is a registry number - and I see now that the Twitter thread linked at the top provided that: NCC-1616 - and a class name.

I don't see the class name in there. Or is Zimmerman the class ship?
If it has one, it hasn't been provided yet.

...Just like the original Malachowski. Only without the pod, thus perhaps more "integrated" than "modular". And thus also more obsolete soon enough.

I'm fine with the BoP we got. I mean, it's a fine design, and Klingon enough - but what's interesting here is that the term "Bird of Prey" is so grossly misused by the heroes in the first season (in "Choose Your Pain", it refers to a D7 battle cruiser cum prison ship) that we can always argue that the "real" BoPs continue the lineage from ENT to TOS movies, while these fine skullships go by some other designation altogether.

And probably started with B&B's mistaken use of "Warbird" in "Broken Bow, Part I(ENT)" when the Vulcan diplomat spoke of the Klingon warships that would surround Earth if humans didn't return Klaang to Qo'noS.
