Starship Blueprints

I've got what you might call a curious question and I don't rightly know if it can be answered but here goes!
Say you go on ebay and buy several sets of blueprints, each of a seperate ship of course, Galaxy, Constitution & K't'inga, Miranda / Avenger, say all these plans but one were damaged in such a way as not to have a scale for measuring the ships, can you use the scale on the undamaged set of plans to measure the other damaged plans?
Just to help you all out say the plans of the Galaxy are undamagged!:techman:

I doubt you'll find more than a couple different sets that are drawn at the same scale. I don't think anyone has set any sort of fandom-wide standard or anything.

I suppose you might be able to compare common parts from different sets and come with some sort of converson from one to the next, though.

The constitution was 2.5 mm to the metre, my gallaxy is a much smaller scale. Many of the blueprint during the late 70s' thru mid 80s' used the 2.5 mm scale

Somewhere on the plans it probably lists an overall length for the ship. Measure that on each one, work out the scale of the drawings and see if any of them are the same scale. Once you have the scale you can sketch your own little scale bar.

Many? The only ones that I know for sure did that was FASA, and they did that for purposes of the RPG... Most the blueprints I've seen through the 1970s and 1980s weren't even METRIC, much less 2.5mm scale.

I have to agree with Vance on this one, the Enterprise-D blueprints that I bought don't have any specifications of any kind at all! There is a scale on each sheet though.
TMP blueprints do list specifications.

I'd also suggest that the vertical height of the deck in the newer ships (TOS thru Voyager) would be about the same. Enterprise series appears to be a little more cramped. Check Wiki for ship specs too.

Considering the number of ships Jackill's covers, there's no way they could all be the same scale. Otherwise, some of those plans would have to be big enough to qualify as wall murals.

This brings up a question, shouldn't Starfleet ships have the same deck height no matter what class or era?

James

except when you can see Cpt. Archer banging his head on the ceiling girders.

I was wrong. Just pulled them out and checked. Only the FJ Enterprise and the Saladin were 2.5 mm to the metre, Half dozen others were 2.95 mm, and the others from that time period were all over the place.

They were all metric, except the Klingon BoP, it was in feet (go figure).

If the Enterprise was 947 feet, and the saucer was eleven deck , then it would be seven feet, decksole to decksole. Wasn 't Shatner only about five foot seven?

I don't know why it is that actors under six feet tend to try to stretch their height while the ones over six feet tend to say they are shorter. I've met Shatner in real life and looked him eye to eye, and I'm only 5' 6".

It's probably more of a producer's issue than the actors. Leading men are supposed to be in the 6' range.

Ever taken the Universal Studios tour? With the western town storefronts, one side slightly undersized to make the men look taller and the other side oversized to make the women look more petite? The tradition goes back decades. Setups like that worked great for shrimps like Alan Ladd, or Bill Shatner for that matter, and for those who really were around 6', like John Wayne, they looked like freakin' giants.

If I may ask... which plan sets do you have, or need help with?
