Stargazer TPBs

Since it seems unlikely that the Stargazer series will continue, and seeing as they can be very hard to find, is it likely for two TPBs to come out each holding three of the six books?

If there is, I'm guessing late 2010 or later if they do come out.

Any thoughts?

I think that answers your question. I would think if the series were going to continue they might re-issue the early ones since there would be some interest when the new books came out but if they are not going to continue the series what would be the point?

Maybe sales weren't strong enough for the last few "Stargazer" novels, and that's why they haven't continued?

There are many, many out-of-print ST novels out there. All the ones that do get re-presented in some form are reprinted because their original sales figures were excellent and it is hoped they'll perform well again - to a new audience who might have missed them the first time. (ie. The four first "Rhiannsu" books, reprinted just in time for one new, oft-delayed conclusion, "The Empty Chair".)

*cough*Still available as eBooks*cough*

Well the price of Kindle ebooks at least has jumped by a few dollars a book in the last few month -- especially on the older star trek books making e-books a less enticing option imo. I was planning on buying a kindle but if I was looking for out or print books now I would just buy them used or check your local used bookstores.

I can't stand reading an e-book, I just can't sit looking at my computer screen for long enough to make headway on a book. I can sit and read a message board or e-mails because I can look away constantly - but a book demands a bit more attention!

Wow, only seven posts to get to the e-book debate from a completely unrelated topic. And we didn't even need to use Kevin Bacon.

Back on topic, I thought they did pack Reunion and the first regular StarGazer novel into a TPB some years ago?!

Sure, but they were both bestsellers the first time around.

"Pantheon" (Sept 2003) reprints "TNG: Reunion" and "TNG: The Valiant" by Michael Jan Friedman, with an all-new bridging arc that connects the two tales (ie. seven extra paragraphs from a reflective Guinan.) It also features a new introduction by the author, and an interview with the author by Kevin Dilmore. The bookend historical chapters for "The Valiant" are widened to embrace both stories in the "Signature edition".

A Kindle uses "digital paper," a technology that uses tiny balls of black ink against a white surface rather than a bright flickering screen. It's no harder on the eyes than actual paper.

^^The flicker is at a very high frame rate as the screen refreshes itself. It's faster than the eye can register, but it still puts strain on the eye. But digital paper doesn't have that problem, because the image stays until you turn the page. Therefore much less eyestrain.

I don't know if it still works, but you used to be able to see the flicker when you took video of the computer screen.

Also if you look at it through the blades of an electric fan. Anything with a repeating shutter pattern. So, I guess, don't blink too fast and predictably.

Actually, it was related to the topic, since I was suggesting an option for getting hard-to-find Star Trek books.

If you use eReader, you can now read eBooks on Windows Mobile, Palm, Symbian, Windows, Mac OS, and iPhone / iPod Touch devices. I'm just a tad-bit partial to eReader, though. :) And no flickering involved!

Still, though, it's not for me. Call me old fashioned, but I like actually holding a book in my hands and having them all line up on the shelf when I've collected a series.

I'm on a limited budget and cannot afford a handheld eBook reader, at least not until Sony Europe release the PRS-505. And I do most of my reading to and from work, so a laptop is a little unwieldy.

As soon as I am able to get eBooks of my favourite ST books, rest assured I will. And now, back on topic.

If the Stargazers were released as TPBs it might cause a resurgence.

Reprints are not made to gamble on a possible resurgence of interest. They are a response to the laws of supply and demand. Not enough demand, no supply.

I would think a quick browse in a large second hand bookshop would uncover some "Stargazer" MMPBs.

Not really possible in my part of the world. London just doesn't have a decent stock of new or second hand ST books anyway, even Forbidden Planet is starting to reduce their stock. The only place I might find them is in my local secondhand sci fi and fantasy bookshop, but even that is unlikely, they tend to stock more of the TOS and TNG than any of the others.
