^ SGA was canned because MGM wanted a quick buck from movies because I don't believe for a second that any sort of 6th season would not of been profitable for MGM and then they could of had DVD movies but quick greed got to them.
M&M are definitely involved in the first Atlantis movie. Though if TPTB are wanting fresh takes, then they themselves should step down; Wright and Cooper have been around for three years longer than M&M.My prediction on SGU is that they might retain the "newer" writers such as Gero and Binder, but bring in some fresh blood as well. Mallozzi and Mullie I can see not coming back due to TPTB wanting fresh takes and them wanting to move on (just speculation on my part). However, I can see M&M being involved with future DVD movies.

Well, another Vancouver shoot. There goes Temis' dream of New Mexico, I guess.
Fortunately, the village set will be decommissioned, as the new sets are slated for that stage. Stargate Command and Atlantis Gateroom sets remain on their respective stages.Pinetrees, pinetrees and more pinetrees oh and the renaissance set.
Who knows, maybe SG:U would have premiered alongside the 6th season of Atlantis. but MGM said no and sacrificed Atlantis to devote full attention on Universe?

Grasping for conspiracies here, but if filming's slated for February, with sets to be constructed this fall, then doesn't that mean that the design phase has been in gear for some time...doesn't that indicate there's been movement on the show-vis a vis, whether it would be picked up, for longer than what's been portrayed?![]()
It could be that there was an agreement of concept, and MGM gave the go-ahead for preliminary work while the two worked out the budgetary details.Grasping for conspiracies here, but if filming's slated for February, with sets to be constructed this fall, then doesn't that mean that the design phase has been in gear for some time...doesn't that indicate there's been movement on the show-vis a vis, whether it would be picked up, for longer than what's been portrayed?![]()

I guess that's a good thing, as opposed to Trek stretching its writers way thin with two series running cocurrently along with odd movie hitting the theatres.
They'd also hired another 3-4 writers, though--Binder, Gero, and McCullough come to mind.I forgot where the article is but I remember reading somewhere that when SG-1 and Atlantis ran side by side the writers were writing about 42 scripts but with SG-1 gone the load was dropped.
cylkoth,
I agree with you. I think SGU has been in the concept stage a helluva lot longer than TPTB want to admit. Can't admit it, of course. Don't want to lose potential viewers by letting them know you sacrificed one show for another.
In a brief interview with Straight.com, “Vancouver’s Online Source”, Brad Wright talks about how Vancouver has changed over the time since Stargate SG-1, his creation along with Jonathan Glassner’s, debuted in 1997. Lost are the financial benefit of stretching the American dollar in Canada and many of the filming locations, which have been converted into condo developments. Even so, Wright believes that the film industry will not leave Vancouver, and apparently, neither will Stargate.
Ultimately, though, it is up to the studio to decide which path to take. Wright is preparing a script for a third movie, but no official green light has been announced, and he has already pitched Stargate Universe to the Sci Fi Channel, but the cost of the show might be too high for them. Straight.com’s Blaine Kyllo said that MGM “wants another spinoff series and another pair of movies” and that “Wright said the only decision to be made is whether to make two more movies or start up another series.” Apparently, they can’t do both concurrently, so MGM must choose. Wright has the luxury to be the creative behind both and told Kyllo over the phone, “All I can do is take care of my own little corner of the universe up here and make sure that we have more product being made and shows being put into the pipeline.”
