Stargate Universe preview tonight

I look forward to the preview, I'll be recording BSG so I can play the preview of SGU back frame-by-frame to take a closer look after it aires.

Just saw the preview, it certainly looks way different than SGA and SG1, in a good way. My only concern is that it may be compared to nuBSG in tone and atmosphere.

I saw it too and until I saw the stargate I was beginning to wonder if it wasa Stargate series, but it looks good and different from the other two shows, which is a good thing in my mind.

The chevrons look interesting

That actually looked pretty damn cool, but anyone can make something look cool in twenty seconds.

Well trailer are supposed to be cool, which means when they aren't mindblowing....ehhh, that's something to watch out for.

Caprica's trailer was ,ehhh. SGU's was okay.

The gate better spin, thats how the old ones worked, and these gates are supposed to be of the old variety, like around the Milky Way gate type, maybe even before it.

Looks like they're seriously trying to imitate Galactica's visual aesthetic, but I'll be the first to admit: I like that aesthetic a lot. We'll see how it plays out in series form. Looks like a departure from SG-1 and Atlantis, which is what this franchise needs to survive. I'm already happy to let Stargate die, so it will have to go a long way to impress me. But, perhaps, just perhaps, it will.

Or maybe they're just using rapid jump-cuts to give the appearance they are doing so. And even if they ape the aesthetic (not hard to do), it doesn't mean SGU will be like BSG in any substantive way.

Agreed. But that visual asthetic is cool, though. If that's the route they go, I applaud them for doing so. It's what Enterprise should have done.

But, yes, just because it looks like BSG doesn't mean it is BSG. I still have serious misgivings about the Stargate writers being able to pull off the types of stories they're talking about. I just don't see these writers being able to pull off BSG-type stories. But we shall see.

That preview did nothing for me.

Same here. Not sure what we were supposed to feel from seeing people running around in dark corridors. How is mass panic an exciting tease for a TV series? That said I did like seeing LDP and the gate at the end.

Quite possible that they faked it, especially since it was a promo airing alongside Galactica. Also quite possible (in fact, given the evidence, more than likely) that it won't be like Galactica in any substantive way, concerning both narrative and character. But there's always a faint glimmer of hope that you can hold onto, at least until the pilot airs.

The Milky Way ones didn't spin when they were connected to a DHD, though. (Or at least weren't supposed to. The sound guys had issues with that at times.)
