Stargate reboot make the SG1 team international?

This week I completed watching the first 8 seasons of Stargate SG1. I know the last two seasons were not as good but will watch them eventually.
However a thought comes to mind, the USAF and the Pentagon discovers a space exploration device and keeps it secret for years from the other main nation states. Exploring the galaxy, getting into wars and almost humans being destroyed, without the rest of humankind even knowing. Ok from a RL TV production perspective it was the mid 90's and the USA was politically the last superpower standing after the Cold War ended. Plus with all those male writers and producers, watching the show now, it reeks of White American male testosterone.(hello De Luise family)
If a Stargate TV reboot was ever produced I think the show would be better if the writers were more diverse (assuming the original ones were not), the main SG1 team more international and the whole of the SGC be less of an American effort and more an international one. From an in universe perspective it made no sense, one nation state roamed the galaxy representing humanity, until forced to share the great big secret with the Security council nations.
It could be a present day version of a semiStarfleet without all the united humankind cultural ethos behind it

I agree. One of the things I'm hoping for in a revival is for Stargate to be a bit less of a boys' club (which, to be fair, it was already moving away from while the franchise was originally on the air, with SGA and SGU having more diverse casts, and even the special edition of the SG-1 pilot trimming out most of Carter's over-the-top "I'm a woman in a man's world! I can play with the boys, but I'm still feminine!" stuff and being more in line with how she was written once the show started to find its feet).

Oh, I agree, the diversity could be much better. Even in the later years of the franchise when the Stargate program did become more international it was still very much "America! Fuck yeah!" The international authority the SGC answers to is basically a bunch of squabbling bureaucrats who nine times out of ten make things worse due to their own incompetence and indecision, with the remaining time being when they make things worse due to an actual villainous plan of theirs.

And then there's the times where the other nations that do contribute to the Stargate program don't do as well as the US. When the Russians had their own Stargate program, it lasted about a month before they had a situation go tits up on them needing the Americans to come save the day. When the Russians get their own SG team, everyone gets killed on their first mission. When the Russians get their own starship it gets destroyed on its first mission, ditto when the Chinese get their own starship. Actually, just how the IOA would be organized today would be interesting to see, since back then the Russians and Chinese were America's co-partners in running the IOA, while given the real world political relations between the three countries today, well...

Another issue with the show, even in the context of being an American military drama, it was rather too US Air Force centric, with the SGC and associated ships and facilities being pretty much entirely USAF run with some support from the Marines. And the Marines were usually treated as bad guys, since aside from Maybourne every villainous military character in the franchise is a Marine. From what I gather, if something like the SGC were real, it's something all the branches of the US military would be contributing to.

Okay, I'm starting to ramble, but yeah, if the show were done today, I can see the SGC being set up something similar to Atlantis with civilian authority figures and international personnel and the SG-1 team itself should be representative of that diversity with non-whites, non-males, and non-Americans comprising the team.

Stargate has some of the best potential to create a Starfleet-esque style organization, and often times did quite well with a away mission type format. I would welcome either a reboot style, or a sequel in which the SGC is placed completely under international oversight, with a variety of countries contributing to the overall effort.

But, I'm completely selfish in that I welcome more Stargate, pretty much always.

They brought that up a few times. Other countries got fed up with the SGC and their dominance

"Why does everything have to go to you(SGC)"

"Uh because we have the primary gate on earth"

I get that. I was more referring to the fact that when the other countries do get involved, they never do as well as the Americans do. Like the Russians losing their SG team and starship on their first missions. Indeed, the thing with the ships really annoyed me, as I thought it would have created a very interesting dynamic if the Odyssey was destroyed in the season 9 finale and the SGC had to coordinate with a Russian starship during the final season rather than just having an American ship at their disposal. Or maybe they could have just reassigned the Daedalus to Milky Way stuff with the Russians taking over starship duty for Atlantis.

Having it more international is a bit easier if any new Stargate show is a continuation of the show but I wouldn't hold my breath at best it'll be one member and knowing how TV execs work it likely wouldn't be Russian or Chinese either Canadian, British or perhaps German.

I like the idea of making it international in general but I worry that it'd force the drama to revolve around international squabbling.

How do you have China in the mix without addressing their human rights problems?

If they wanted to, they could just yadda-yadda past it since the continuation would probably be taking place in a post-disclosure world, so there wouldn't be the same obligation to take the last ten years of real-world politics into account. Or you could transplant the issues to off-world analogues. Maybe China, Russia, and the U.S. are starting to independently claim or ally with different planets, and a new cold war is starting in space while things are peaceful on Earth itself.

That could be a really interesting idea, actually. The IOA has fractured, with each of the big three leading their own coalition of countries. Maybe the Chinese and Russians each set up their own stargate programs off-world, connecting them to Earth by ship, or there's, like, a Cold-War Berlin thing going on where all three factions still share use of the Earth stargate as neutral territory, because none of them can afford the others having exclusive control nor could they defend it if they tried to take it over.

I thought the rumours of a new series were declared to be false?
No, a revival of some sort really is happening, Brad Wright's been talking about it since just before the pandemic started. What was sort of debunked was in a recent interview Amanda Tapping was talking about how she's had discussions about acting and directing in it, and those comments were twisted and interpreted as filming is due to begin imminently, which she has since clarified is not the case at all.

SGA was more international, well it had Canadians Eh..
Well, could have countries settling new worlds, using there personal ships to settle them. Using a asgard tech.
But the question is of a new enemy?

Well you could always go for another "False god". ;)

But why not have the Furlings as the enemy.

The should make the Stagnate known to the public. America though if your being realistic would never share ownership of the Ring with another country. That's why it's more likely the Government would control the building it's located and would have final approval of any missions but you would have all sorts of teams from each country going out on missions while any tech brought back would be shared by all and when it comes to politics it would be procedure for each country to be informed and any kind of treaty would need approval of the United Nations. What I like though is the idea you have a special unit that is a mix from the 4 most powerful counties in the United Nations that is reserved for joint missions. I like idea of 4 or 5 people who come close yet at the same time they each have to answer separately to their government thus creating internal conflict sometimes. Also a 5th member who is a alien or maybe a Tolan who has survived and be alone for years since his or her planet was destroyed by the G'ould.

Since this is the most active Stargate thread, did anyone see that the complete series Blu-ray set that was released last year has Corin Nemec on the cover instead of Michael Shanks?
