Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and why?

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

D - I would rather see a continuation of SGU. SG-1 characters can appear as possible, though.

I'd also like to see a movie on Atlantis returning to Pegasus...

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I heard at one point the original Stargate movie was planned as a trilogy and they were actually considering picking that back up. That would be intriguing, like restoring a backup.

I don't see how they can do much more in the TV Stargate universe. They have no real way to take away all the Trek tech brought in later in the series from Earth, and having all that is a poor starting point. If they did ever do another series in that universe, I'd want it to start with all of Earth finding out about everything (If that happened after I stopped watching, I apologize), and I'd want it to involve some Mass Effect/B5 like council of aliens trying to coexist and build alliances against bigger threats. Stargate SG1 showed modern earth discovering and learning how to survive the alien universe, now we'd see them entering it as equals and exploring the Earth politics if we, in the real world, found out tomorrow there was an alien community out there.
Personally, I would not mind seeing Emmerich and Co. continue on with their original planned sequels (there is a book series that kind of explored that). I loved the original movie, regardless of popular opinion, and would like to see more of that idea unfold.

I am hoping that Emmerich is able to make a new film, as I think the ideas and concepts presented could gives us an SG-1 style reboot and explore the consequences thereof again.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

More than anything, I'd like the show to get a sense of closure it deserves. I think that could be accomplished in a single movie or mini-series

What became of Atlantis after arriving on Earth? Give Universe a proper ending. What do the goddam Furlings look like? ()

But admittedly, the franchise was really stale by the time it all ended. I'm not going to hold my breath.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I liked SGU but that's never going to come back, so, my first choice would probably be some kind of SG1 continuation with a new cast that can pull stuff and characters from all previous series once in awhile.
Second choice would be a new film that completely reboots.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

New series with a new SG team, perhaps a more international one.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

Thanks for all the answers and discussion, everyone. I don't have much to add right now, but it's been fun reading your thoughts.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

Col. O'Neil did wonder about the Furlings. Are they cute furry critters like Ewoks?

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

Maybe SG1 gets haplessly involved in a war between the Ri'tu, the Aschen, and the Foothold aliens.

I think it would be most fitting if the Furlings turned out to be the Spirits aliens. They seem to fit the MO of a council of four race. Advanced race playing the part of noble Gods rather than evil ones.

SG-1 had so many cool bad guys they didn't use enough. There was always talk of doing another Aschen story to finish the trilogy, they should have. However I wish they had done a lot more with the Ri-tu. They were so much more interesting the damn replicators.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I was left curious about the Furlings.

E. I would continue the SG1/SGA/SGU storylines in an eBook or comic series, leading to a wrap up where everything gets a nice bow on it. I think continuing with new episodes or direct-to-dvd would be awkward at this point in time, not even taking into account financial realities.

Or roll with the Emmerich-led reboot.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I think the SG-1 cast is getting a little long in the tooth, and SGU was (mostly) annoying. Personally I'd actually like to see a reboot of Atlantis; get a new cast, with the exception of David Hewlett, and try it again without all of the Renaissance Fair people and no freaking Replicators!

I honstly wish Sokar had lasted longer.

I came back into the thread to post this. Go figure.

The 1994 MGM feature film Stargate was a rather quiet, unassuming success, an enjoyable film that, as it turned out, showcased only a modicum of its true potential. It wasn’t until its TV series scion, Stargate SG-1 began its 10-year run in 1997 that fans began to realize its true potential.
“Even that, though, it was only the beginning. Enroute to the longest run of any American science fiction television series, the show unlocked not only the potential of the franchise, but firmly established it as a multi-show franchise,” said Barlow Jones, Marketing Manager for American Mythology Productions.
Stargate Atlantis, which launched in 2004, and Stargate Universe, which first aired in 2009, not only attracted fans of the original movie and the original series, but they also had their own fans and unique takes on their shared reality. We’re very happy to be bringing these two series back in comic book form,” he said.
The fledgling comic book publisher announced two weeks ago that the had landed the first ever comic book license with likeness rights for The Three Stooges, and Jones intimated that they weren’t done with their announcements yet. For the moment, though, he only wanted to talk about their latest two reveals.
“New worlds, alien races and ancient mysteries await discovery as American Mythology Productions steps through the Stargate into an exciting, far-reaching, danger-filled realm of possibilities,” he said. “And yes, I’m a marketing guy, but I promise you that’s not just hyperbole.”
First out of the gate, so to speak, according to Jones, will be Stargate Atlantis: Season 6, a new monthly title continuing the events from the climactic end of the hit TV show’s fifth season. Lt. Colonel John Sheppard, Ronon Dex, Teyla Emmagan, Dr. Rodney McKay, Richard Woolsey, Dr. Jennifer Keller and the series’ many other familiar characters will be up against dangerous new foes who threaten everyone from the distant Pegasus galaxy to the Earth itself.
Following that, AM will launch a monthly Stargate Universe, the details of which Jones wasn’t quite ready to share just yet.
“For fans of Stargate Universe, we have something really special planned, and as a fan of the show myself I can say it’s going to be very cool. We’re going to get to know Dr. Nicholas Rush, Eli Wallace, Colonel Everett Young, Camile Wray and the other Destiny crew members very well,” he said.
The schedules and creative teams for these series will be announced shortly, and there’s even more Stargate news to come from AM in the near future. The first issue of Stargate Atlantis will be featured in the January 2016 issue of PREVIEWS from Diamond Comic Distributors. It will hit comic shops in March.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of the original movie. Although I liked the series better, it would be interesting to see an alternate way that things could have turned out. One thing I didn't like about the series was Sha're's abduction and then death. I'd like to see a story where she got to live. If that's the route the re-booted movie will take.

I would like to see more SG1 telefilms. Maybe a wrap up for Atlantis going back to Pegasus.

I couldn't stand Universe, but it should have been resolved for fans who did like it. I really wanted to like it when it came on, but I didn't.

The second season is a lot better, but it's still full of horrible characters and mainly horrible actors and writing. But the basic idea of the show in the second season I would have loved to see where it was going. Literally, where the ship was going would have been awesome.

I know it's late, but I missed this the first time around...

Much as I don't like what the novels did with the Wraith... they already got there first. Do they really think there's going to be a market for another version of that story?

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I never found the Wraith a particularly interesting villain. They never had much individual variety in the Wraith to create the quality of villains SG1 got. On top of that I never understood why they were so scared of the Wraith getting back to Earth, it seemed to me that Earth had built up more than adequate defenses to fight them off.

I think the peak of my enjoyment of Atlantis was The Storm. When it finally lost me was when they introduced a second version of the replicators. I quit the show after that, it was just so creatively lazy to make a new villain that was nearly identical to an existing villain from the other show.

I was sad SG1 never did an episode where the general public finds out about the Stargate.
