Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and why?

Made this topic on NeoGAF as well. Figured I'd port it over here:

With Star Trek finally coming back to "TV", my tireless space-loving masochistic side has now turned back to that other great Star gig that had its time in the sun and then went supernova.

We know what we're actually (probably) getting: an Emmerich-helmed return to the big screen, totally separated from the 1997-2011 television stretch. I won't bother echoing what many have already said -- that it'll be sad to see the 360+ hours of canon thrown aside -- but hey, it's not like SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe are going anywhere. They're just... not... going anywhere, either.

So I figured I'd make a thread asking my fellow Gaters what they'd rather see, in an ideal world where MGM didn't go bankrupt and the DVD market didn't dry up and Universe didn't deliver ratings so bad that Caprica wasn't always trailing behind. Naturally if you're delighted by this reboot then that's a fine option as well!

A. The new movies are the best path for this franchise.

B. I'd like to see new seasons or telefilms of SG-1 instead.

C. I'd like to see new seasons or telefilms of Atlantis instead.

D. I'd like to see a continuation of the permanently cliffhangered Universe instead.

E. I have another opinion (ie "a new TV show would be best", "Stargate sucks", "I just want a clipshow of Daniel deaths").

Sound off!

Ideally I'd like to see a continuation of Stargate Universe. I'm one of the few who really liked the show and I want to see where the arc they set up was headed. They said it would be something that would be difficult to top and with the revelation that there was a message imbedded in the background radiation of the universe (in other words, an intelligence that predates the big bang), I definitely wanted more. I also like the world building we got starting with the 1994 movie and don't want to see that wiped away.

More SG-1.

Ideally I'd like to see this show woven into the SG universe as well. I think it could be done, with very little rewriting...

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

^ I wouldn't mind seeing Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra folded into the Gate universe.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I wouldn't mind seeing one more SG1 movie--to sort of wrap up everyone's story. I don't think all the actors are keen to do it, though. RDA is semi-retired now and Michael Shanks is still doing Saving Hope in Canada.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

one more movie for SG1. a movie for Atlantis and one for Universe.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

1. I have another opinion. I'd like another SG show with some cast from the other shows, continuing after SG1 and Atlantis and resolving Universe.

2. I'd like to see a continuation of the permanently cliffhangered Universe instead. (I loved the show)

3. I'd like to see new seasons or telefilms of SG-1 instead.

4. I'd like to see new seasons or telefilms of Atlantis instead.

I'd like to see Stargate telefilms, with those options.

As much as I'd love to have the original back, the quality of the original was tied up so much in the chemistry of the original cast I don't think they'd recreate that. Plus they introduced too much tech to the universe you can't recapture the tactical ground battles of the early series.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I'd like to see the written but not filmed next SG1 movie, "Stargate: Revolution".

That is if Richard Dean Anderson's health permits it.

He's done almost nothing since the series, was barely in the two TV films, and even when he was in those two, by the second it was obvious they were trying to hide his weight gain.

After that, I'm inclined to just let it rest. The spin-offs were like the Trek spin-offs after TNG. It wasn't getting better. Now like JJTrek they want to reboot it, which means we'll likely get a reboot series if the new film does well. Just let it go unless the SG1 people have a clear vision and good ideas.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

Universe was hitting it's groove in the second half of the second season. I'd like to see where it went from there.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I saw RDA at a convention a few months ago. He looked fine, put on a good show and had everyone laughing. Reports of his ill health are either false or exaggerated. I think he said something along the lines of taking it easy so that he could be there for his daughter.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I too would like see them finish Stargate Universe and more made for DVD movies would be nice. Unless somebody comes along and makes a complete reboot/remake.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I'd love a continuation of SGU, but realistically a lot of the actors have moved on to greener pastures (or at least Ming Na and Robert Carlyle have). A continuation could happen if their stasis pods "malfunctioned" on the long journey to the next Galaxy, but that would be a cop out from the get go which is something a continuation of something that was already seen as kinda meh doesn't need.

I'd like something new, done in that style, which ties together all 3 mythologies in some way. How about we finally get Stargate Command?

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

Sort of a continuation of SG-1. While I am under no illusions that it'll be easy to get al the main cast back, make a series about the current SG-1 team and follow their weekly adventures in the Vancouver Pine Forests of the galaxy. On occasion bring back the old cast for cameos and what not.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

My preference would be for a continuation of SGU. SG-1 & Atlantis both had good runs and I think it's best to leave them as they are (though Atlantis could do with a final TV movie or something) but Stargate Universe was cancelled just when it began to find it's feet after a fairly shaky start.

Almost certainly never *ever* going to happen at this point, but one can dream.

Two most likely scenarios are: the franchise will just fade until sometime down the road someone does a reboot of some sort or a direct sequel to the original movie.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

Emmerich's intending to come along and do a complete reboot, so that's probably what's going to happen regardless.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I'm torn between a continuation of Universe and more Atlantis. Even though post-finale books have the Atlantis storyline covered, I still would've liked to see more of the city and those characters.

The frustrating thing about Stargate is that by the time Universe rolled around, the mythology was so deep...galactic politics, Earth outposts, political wrangling to continue to fund the Stargate program and who got operational control, discovery of more Ancient devices...it's a shame that all that went up in smoke. If the Emmerich/Devlin reboot happens, all that won't even feature.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

I heard at one point the original Stargate movie was planned as a trilogy and they were actually considering picking that back up. That would be intriguing, like restoring a backup.

I don't see how they can do much more in the TV Stargate universe. They have no real way to take away all the Trek tech brought in later in the series from Earth, and having all that is a poor starting point. If they did ever do another series in that universe, I'd want it to start with all of Earth finding out about everything (If that happened after I stopped watching, I apologize), and I'd want it to involve some Mass Effect/B5 like council of aliens trying to coexist and build alliances against bigger threats. Stargate SG1 showed modern earth discovering and learning how to survive the alien universe, now we'd see them entering it as equals and exploring the Earth politics if we, in the real world, found out tomorrow there was an alien community out there.

Now, a TV series based in the Mass Effect universe, that'd be my absolute dream.

Re: Stargate fans: which of the following would you rather have, and w

Wasn't there supposed to be a movie that brought everything together?

I would like to see where Universe was going and mix in some SG1 as Jack showed up every once and awhile anyways. And I'd like to see Jack and Sam married with a child.

No ? DS9 was better. Just not as popular.

Whatever was done with Stargate, they'd need to wrap up Universe as a part of it. Some of Carlisle and co. may have moved on, but they'd still be available for cameo's while the rest of the cast don't seem too busy...
